Default EF b16a to crvtec, cost, fitment, etc...

Tried the search, no luck.

I have a '91 hatch w/j-b16a. What would be the cost to either swap out the block or work the engine so that it has ~2L displacement. I'd need a hydraulic trans to match up the newer engine, right?

Preferrably I'd like to keep my b16a and build it up for greater (2L) displacement. It'd be worth it to pop the hood after a race and say "Yup, you got tore by a 1.6" Hee Hee

So what would I need to do to make my 1.6L VTEC run as a 2.0 VTEC? If it's substantially cheaper to drop in the b20 block, so be it, but I'd rather not.

Also, if I do work my motor to 2L, I'd still be running my cable trans, right?
Would there be any hood clearance issues if I'm still running the same block w/greater displacement?

If anybody's running a 2L b16, let me know what ur setup is and the cost involved.

Any educated dreamers wanna gimme a guesstimate as to the cost/parts involved with this upgrade?? I'd like to keep as much stock honda parts as possible, for reliabilty. Cams? Valvetrain? Pistons? etc...

Thanks for any and all replies!

I'll answer a couple of your questioms. Your displacement and or changing your b16 block to a b20 block are not gonna change what tranny you need to use you still will be using your cable tranny set up. I would say that it prolly would be easier to build the b20 bottom end with some high compresion pistons and rods then you can just bolt your head and tranny on and rip. The b20 block along with the b18 have a 7mm higher deck so your hood might be an issue. I believe you might have to change to the jdm hood which bends up instead of down.

Bam!

BAM!

Might be cheaper to go B20 block, but these are tried and true kits with top quality parts.

Cool! Thanks for the links!

Sounds like I may go with the b20 block. Anyone have a cost estimate for the built up block (and other necessary components for the swap) and install (not something I'm comfortable with yet) for a strong streetable set up?

Sorry for all the price Q's, but I'm trying to see how this upgrade fits into the budget, compared to other options, all costs included.

Thanks again for all your help and replies!

No, no estimate available.

All the maniacs on this board even willing to do this can do it themselves. Most of us have no idea what any of this crap costs to have done by a shop.

i wouldnt trust a shop out here to touch my 2.0VTEC project...

i am having troble finding people who understand the concept of a hybrid, let alone anyone who can conceptualise putting a CRV engine and Integra head in my Prelude!!!

im looking at $600us for a block, $250us for the head deshrouding/polish/machine, $75us for fittings/oil line, and $100us for replacing seals/gaskets/o-rings...

so about $1100us, in my backyard...

HTH,
