Default Car starts rough after sitting in sun

I have noticed the past couple days that after letting my car sit in the hot sun all day that it has trouble starting and when it does, it seems to bog and run rich for a bit untill it gets up to temp. It doesnt do this if I am parked in the garage or if its been sitting in a cool area. I have a 2002 honda civic lx turbo. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be and how to fix it?

i know with the older civics like the ef and egs, if the main relay is bad it wont let the car start after sitting in the sun.

The pounding servers two purposes, actually. The first usually helps start the car. The second usually reaches its goal regardless if the relay is bad or not. Sometimes you just need to hit the things you love to show them how you feel.

My guess is maybe the fitv is a bit messed up? Its a chance, but really seems interior-heat related, not motor-heat related.

ok, if it was the main relay (which its not) then the car would just crank and crank and wouldnt even try to start. you have a hot start problem, which u can usually take care of with tuning. since u are probably running e-manage (the weapon on choice for all you weird 7th gen doods) u might have to talk to your tuner about it

Be sure it runs like **** for that reason and there are no confounding elements such as outside temp or time of day and so on.

yup, ive come to the conclusion that it ONLY happens when the sun is beating down on it or it is hot out

Yeap, been there and done that, It sucks! You are not the only one, my crx does it only in the summer time, but always starts after 5min of trying(only happens like 3-4 times a year, with my old d16)). Has'nt happened alot since I have the b16, you should always clean and check your relay connections, I 've always been told that older hondas have bad electrical connnections. Whether this is right or not, no one has pin pointed this problem exactly because your car starts within a few mins.

its not just that it wont start because i can get it to start, but i just need to give it some gas and its more that its running so rich that it bogs out at low rpm and plumes of black smoke come out of the exhaust

i know this is really out there but take it into concideration

temp's effect how things expand & contract. There is a posibility that you've got some type of fuel leak & when it's really hot out it expands & either leaks the fuel out of your line or it gets drawn back into the tank. Look over this, check your fuel pressure guage if you have one.

this would cause you to have to crank & crank till fuel pressure & volume is restored

hope it helps

could it be a bad o2 sensor that is sending the wrong signal to the ecu and causing it to run rich?

does it do it if you turn car off, then get back in within a few minutes? aka car is still hot? regardless of what is shining on it, what is the engine temp when this is happening?

cold, hot, ?

the engine temp could be hot or cold. it could be a cold start while sitting in the hot sun or a hot start while sitting in the sun. im taking it to get tuned in a couple weeks, but i just need to find something to egt me through those couple weeks so i can get it running fine untill then.

management seems to be the culprit on this one. get it tuned...

im gonna run a compression test tomorrow so i can determine if it is a problem witht he engine or tuning

well, i think i have good news...

i just ran the compression test and it came out as follows:

cylinder 1 - 210psi
cylinder 2 - 210psi
cylinder 3 - 205psi
cylinder 4 - 215psi

any compression test should be within 20psi for all cylinders and this was almost perfect, so i figure the engine is fine

next, threw a high voltage for the map sensor code (p0108) again today for the 2nd day in a row, so that leads me to think that is the problem and i need to work on that. so im gonna work with the voltage clamp on the e-manage and try to figure outt a good setting and if i cant get it to work with that, ill buy a new map sensor and get a missing link.

does this sound like it could be my problem? and once again i threw that p0108 code again, only when it sits in the sun though.
