New project and ? about surface rust removal
Here's my newest project I'm working on. I've been looking for one intact and in good shape for awhile and my grandfather snagged this one for me.

I'm planning on restoring it and my question is, what would be the easiest way to remove the surface rust? You can see the front fender that I sanded using a palm sander but even that was a pain. Should I sandblast everything? Recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks--

DING DING DING We have a winner here, media blasting, or glass beading will clean away years of abuse and neglect, without harming the base surface. Good call here.

you could just have the whole thing media polished, where they put it in a big old tank and run the beads of glass or ceramic of whatever all over the metal. that would probably get you a better surface texture than any of the other methods.
if that isn't available, media blast

The metal itself is still very strong and intact without any 'soft' spots. Its just surface rust from sitting for the past couple of decades.
save some money, go to your local paint supply or hardware store and get some jasco prep and prime and red scotch brite. will do the job just fine and save you some cash. if you soak it with a paint brush and this stuff it will almost all be gone the next day without even touching it.

So just brush the prep/prime over the frame? Or use it with the scotch brite and scrub it off?
