insurance question?
ok for my Si i pay 900$/month just liabitity with the theft thing with a 250$ dectuible. have been driving for like 6 months. but anywayz my question is if my car gets stolent does the insurance pay me the price i bought it or the KBB value... cuzz my frineds GSR was reported for 5000$ and that's how much the insurance company is willing to pay him in case his car gets stolen.. which is sad. but does anyone know... KBB says it worth like 12,000$..
Jeez, $900 a month is a lot....to me at least. Every insurance company is different of course, and I would suggest you give them a call to make sure.
Usually, they will cover the current value of the vehicle (or up to a certain amount if it needs to be repaired, after which, it will be totalled out). That will depend on a number of things, mileage, your coverage, etc. If the cluster is gone, they will go by the last mileage and figure out what the mileage would have been at the time it went missing.
There's a certain type of GAP insurance I believe that covers you for the cost of the car (if you're still making payments). That way you don't lose any money.

**** i just realize that .. it's 900/six months.. am sorry..
the car has 35,000 miles.. 2000 Si.. so they would give me the KBB value or the price i bought it for.

Are you asking or telling us? Those two numbers are very different. They will NOT give you the price you bought it for. As soon as you purchased it and drove it 3 feet, it lost value.

My insurance is with my parents. I pay 120 a month for liability on my 97 ex, my parents pay 130 a month for full insurance on a wrx and honda crv. If mine gets stolen im butfucked tho

they will appraise it according to values more similar to edmunds.com... minus a little more. It is not nice, so don't plan on getting it totalled or stolen. Be a good safe driver.... and go to church.
i don't to lose it.. but yeah **** happens .. i don't want to commit Insurance Fraud... you know how often Si's honda's/acura's gets stolen .. espically in So.Cal.
he changed it to 900/six months($150/month). thats actually pretty cheap. what company are you with? w/ 2 tickets my insurance w/ statefarm was 300+/month i think(full coverage. now i'm w/ ABC/Progessive and i pay around $180/month(3 tickets) i think but that is only liability. since your a new driver i'm guessing your young..17 or 18 maybe? it'll be even cheaper on you if you go under your parents insurance for the multicar discount. and yes the best way to find out....call your insurance company.
my car has like 35,000 miles am 18 yrs. this my second car previous car was a 01 Civic Ex 50$/month.. cheap as that's what i thought it was going to be with the Si.. but no.. the bitch said 900/six months.. am like am screwed.. am argue watch ... don't want to get it stolen in the first place.. but's it's a Si so **** happens.. the demand for Si's are up here in So.Cal... so yeah a Si here cost about 15,000(asking price) with the same amount of miles my car has slightly higher.. but yeah Si's are rare with that many miles. do you think i can argue that.

*sigh*, this is rediculous the way it's going bakc and forth like this
It'll go four different ways (depending on ur insurance company)
A. They'll send an appraiser out to look at your car, he'll assess the value of the car, whether it's totalled or not, and give you back what's required to pay to fix it WITH OEM PARTS, so if ur JDM crap gets jacked, it's NOT covered less the $250 deductable...
B. A shop tows it, they fix it all up WITH OEM PARTS, and they contact ur insurance copmany and ur insurnace company basically pays for the repair of OEM PARTS, ur SONY XPLOD deck is NOT included....the $20 honda deck is... In the event that you dont' want OEM parts back on, they'll refer to the first thing and whatever aftermarket crap you have on there will have to be covered by your OWN expense..
C. They'll take a picture of your car (common for collision protection) when you sign up with the insurnace company, they'll calculate how much it's worth, and give you the payout....
Now, on how they asess how much it's worth, they DO NOT go to kbb.com and punch in ur numbers.....They have their own scale on how they rate body condition, number of miles, etc. and come up with a # for you, Now, if your car has a 10,400$ paint job, it'll be regarded as the original paint job as per the sticker on the door jam (which will show up as soon as they punch in ur vin #)..
D. (most common) - they make a number that they say you can repair your car for (in ur friend's case it was 5k), in the event that it is stolen or broken into (some companies define broken into differently from stolen) ur insurance company will pay out the 5k after an assess checks for foul play (to make sure ur not trying to screw the insurance company), he pays the $250 deductable and it's taken care of like htat
D-1. They assess how much damage was done of OEM parts, and will pay you as much as you need to fix it BUT WILL NOT GO OVER the limit (so if it costs 7000 to fix it, they'll only pay 5000 of it..)
Basically they'll run ur original vin # against how many miles, body condition, **** like that to asses a value of how much it's worth ur ammount will NOT be anywhere near the retail or trade in prices featured by most online blue books as the insurnace company has its own standards..
In ur friends case, he'll have to ask his insurance company how they handle theft claims, they'll explain how they do it over the phone, also, ask him if his car is broken into it's considered as a theft claim (some companies differentiate as the car was not actually stolen)...
Yeah, insurnace companies are dicks...
EDIT: Iono what kinda coverage u guys got? seems like most of u have full, I have the basics as I've had contact w/ another car ONCE and I was parked in my car..so I have no need for collision, but due to the ammount of deer up here I have comprehensive, no thefts occur here so I don't have anything else, though my GTI since everything's expensive for it I have collision on that...
