Default can i have a second of your time?

Hi guys, im new to this forum and it seems you know alot about this type of car so i have a question. i recently bought a used 90 crx si that needed the gas tank swaped because of the exhaust rubbing a hole on the passenger side. so i replaced that with a new tank, fixed the exhaust rubb, changed the screen on the pump and its working properly. tryed to start the car and it turned over for 1.8 seconds then died out, being fustrated i stoped for the day but the next day i tryed starting it and it did the same thing started for a second then died out just being able to crank it thats all.. so i checked the spark plugs and they were kinda burnt but not bad so i bought new ones but them in and yes they get spark. nothing happend the car just cranked. so i pulled out the fuel filter and replaced that, also checking if the fuel was making it to the fuel rail, and it was, the fuel line off the intake was leaking while i was changeing the filter. so after that was done i hoped in the car turned the accessory on and off 4 times and on the 3rd and a half is when the pump stoped buzzing so it had to be pressureised i tryed starting it and nothing, it just cranked.. now if its getting spark and fuel at least to the rail should i take off the fuel rail and replace the injectors or is there something im missing thats not letting this car turn over??

Just a guess.... does the tach drop to zero before the engine actually stops spinning? - could be the ignition switch then.

Are you sure it's getting spark... both @ startup and @ run?

Does it sound like it's running, or just like it's cranking? If ya hold the key to start longer than you might should (say about 3 seconds) does it keep making the same noise, or does the noise change (like the motor starts spinning faster than starter, aka working @ startup)?

Also sounds like something might be up with fuel pump if it stops buzzing the 4th time... pretty sure it should buzz everytime... for a little while... then shut off if motor isn't started.

the pump buzzes every time im just sure it gets to a point where it cant pressureize the line no more, because if i wait a few second then do it again the pump makes its noise. all i know is the spark plugs get spark wile your trying to crank the car, i havent got it running yet. the longest the motor has hummed was about 2 seconds.

Mine does it every time.... so maybe that's kind of odd... or maybe mine is. But i wouldn't suspect that is the problem yet.

Got spark while starting it. But how about.... right after you turn off the key, and the engine is still spinning, does it have spark then or not?

And does the tach drop straight to zero after you let go of the key with engine still spinning, or not?

Just trying to single out the ignition switch is okay before moving on to other stuff.

spark...spark...spark.... or spark spark spark

depends on how fast the engine is spinning... it will be pretty quick though.

800rpm/4cylinders = 200 sparks a minute == 3.3333 sparks per second.
or possibly 800rpm/4cylinders4cycle(basically 2) = 400/minute == 6.6666 sparks per second
roughly...

or maybe i got fuzzy math and thinking wrong... 4 cycle engine would be ummmm possibly all cylinders fire each revolution so 800/1 = 800minute == 13.33 but then the cam spins faster than rpm... or is that slower....

heck i'd say about 4-5 times per second

so it should spark 4 or 5 times a second only powerd by the starter if so then wow cuz it only sparks once every few seconds. like i said the car wont run at all its just the starter turning the engine.

nah it can't be that much....

now i think about it.... i'd go with more like one spark every 3/4 seconds. or so.

If ya got spark that should be good enough to run, don't worry about how many times too much. More important it is timed correctly (timing light, no biggie).
Just make sure it's got spark when ya let go of the key, and the key has returned to 'run'.... it should be fairly obvious.

If the engine seems to be turning real slowly with just starter, then it could be battery is dying... and computer/ignition isn't getting enough volts... basically make sure the battery is doing well too.

ok im back, so i bought some starting fluid just to see if in fact it is a fuel situation and im preaty sue it is. the car ran fine for the 4, 5 seconds it was useing the starting fluid for fuel, so i went to honda since no one else around here has a fuel pump and assembly for this car. so yes that should be in by next week, if that dosent work then i know its my injectors.
