ECU question. A6 block with y8 head?????
Ok here is my friends set up. It is a weird one but here goes. He has a 91 crx hx he is running a d16a6 bottom end with a d16y8 head for the mini-me swap. The block is obd0 and the head is obd2. He is using a pr3 ecu to run it. He doesn't have vtec wired yet because he did not know the wiring diagram for the vtec wires. That is the only codes he is throwing right now is for the vtec. Does anyone know were to find a diagram for the vtec pinouts on the ecu? Or does he have this setup all wrong and running the wrong ecu for this setup? Let me know.
I believe he should be running a chipped p28 possibly....someone on here might be able to clarify that. The pr3 is a obd0 ecu. as far as a diagram, it is in the FAQ thread at the begining of this forum.
does his car run with that ecu? cause pr3 is for obd0 b16a. a p28 is the ecu that he should be running cause that is the sohc vtec obd1 ecu, but you could chip a pm6 to run the same map and not have to convert to obd1. what distributor is he using? the d16a6 distributor? i think you can chip the pr3 ecu to run the p28 map as well. you might consult pgmfi.org or get ahold of xenocron or kenji on our sponsor forums about converting what you have. it should be easy and only like $100 to convert the ecu.
I am getting off work now and going over to see him to see what is up. I have some pinout diagrams of the pr3 ecu. I want to make sure if everything on the y8 head is oem or did he swap parts off of another head. When I get done talking to him I will relay more info on his swap. From what I have read you can swap a y8 head on a a6 block and one of the best ecu's to use is the pr3.
Ok here is what I found out. I hope this helps out others as well. He has a mini-me swap in a crx hf. We all know an hf and the si use a multi-point fuel injection. So the harness already has wires for 4 injectors. He is running a si tranny with a A6 bottom end using a Y8 head. He is running a pr3 ecu. He used the hf dizzy, injectors, and alt on the Y8 head. He had to run two wires from the ecu to the vtec solenoid. His only downside right now to using a pr3 ecu is the redline is at 8k and vtec comes in at 5500k. He can only redline the d-series engine to at the most 7200k. But he has a good start when he build the motor to handle the 8k redline then he will have the full potential of the ecu. This ecu is one of the best to use for this swap because it doesn't look for a lot of sensors so he didn't have to wire up any extra sensors on the Y8 head because the ecu doesn't look for them.
