Default car jumping around like a crackhead

88 crx z6 block, a6 head, zc pistons
coming home from work yesterday and running a lil low on gas. thought i could make it to the gas station...nope. car falls on its face, no power when i push the throttle. pull over and coast to a stop. try and start it and it sounds like its backfiring and i get a puff of grey smoke out my exhaust. try and crank a couple more times, and the same thing. go to check my timing and no. 1 cyd is at tdc, and in line w/ the cam gear. timings not off. check over everything, all 3 grounds connected, amount of oil good, no fluid leaks, car is not overheating, no fluid on any of the spark plugs. it looks like it should run.
go to crank it again, and she starts. wtf. put her in drive, has no power, and when i give it more than 15% throttle, or go above 1500 rpm, the whole car jumps back and forth very violently. but it does get me to the gas station at 5 mph about a mile away. guess gas wasn't an issue. now what demon has gotten into my car and started tearing things apart?

a distributer can go bad all of a sudden and cause bizzare problems like that. They are expensive, though. If you can find a known working one to try, I would do that.

if you ran it low on gas the fuel filter might have gotten trash in it

throwing a code 16 - fuel injectors. but when i unplug each one while the cars running, the idle changes showing they're not bad. does the code apply to anything else within the fuel system?

It sounds like the fuel pump might be taking a **** on you. A fuel flow test would be nice if you can get the tool.

relays go bad all the time. they are mechanical devices and do wear out. Especially if your is original, Honda had a huge problem back in the day with their cars dying for no reason after sitting on hot days. It was just their orignal design that sucked and they came out with an updated part. Contacts develop high resistance and reduce the amount of voltage to certain item particularly fuel pumps because they draw more current. Substitute a known good if possible and don't just rule it out.
