Default Safe boosting of K20A2.

I have an 02 type s with the Greddy T517Z turbocharger and run 8 psi daily with the Greddy E Manage. It runs fine except it runs an extremely rich condition and it dogs when I romp on it. A simple ECU reset takes care of it for a little while and then it goes back to running extremely rich again. I plan to get the Hondata K-Pro and have it dyno tuned and it should take care of the problem. Now for my question. I've been told that the K20A2 motor can handle 11 to 14 psi with the stock internals and stock valvetrain with nothing else but a good tune, daily driven. I was wondering if this is a good idea with the type-s' compression ratio being 11:1? I've been told by alot of people that with the Greddy kit I should run no more than 8 psi unless lowering the compression with a thicker head gasket for example. Also would barometric pressure be an issue with higher boost levels? Just want to see what you guys think.

there are plenty of people boosting high psi on stock internals. Theres a guy name DC5 RSX who put down 560 whp on stock internals.

Plenty of people are running 9-11 psi on the greddy kit as well. Although, the small turbo loses efficiency after 300whp or so, and that is with K-Pro. SO if you want to push some decent to high numbers, ditch the Greddy kit. Or you can atleast get a rev hard manifold and a turbo like an SC61 (this setup will be compatable with the Greddy FMIC kit)

Even with the high stock compression, alot of people has managed to put down very impressive numbers.

I talked to this guy who owns a shop in Houston, TX and he said the biggest thing when boosting the type-s is the fuel system and he gave me a link to a company that makes a ridiculous fuel system for the k20a2, so I think I'm gonna look into that. Also who makes the SC61 turbo? I just wanna make sure it is safe to run higher psi because my cousin had the Greddy kit on his 03 type-s and popped the motor at 6.5 psi, mostly due to no tuning and a very bad coolant leak. I know I must sound like a complete idiot but my type-s is the first import I've ever owned. I've mainly worked on American Muscle my whole life. I've done alot of research on my car and I'm pretty comfortable knowing what parts to get and what not to get, but I want to learn as much as I can about boosting and tuning.

popped as in blown motor? I can tell you for sure it wasnt the boost he was running. He probably had problems elsewhere, not the turbo kit.

On my old setup, i ran a GT35R at 9-12 pounds of boost and i had no problems at all. And i was putting down a conservative 330-370whp. 400 whp on pump gas can be attainable easily.

6.5 psi off the greddy kit will only yield around 240-250 whp, even on Emanage, thats not enough to blow a motor unless he had oil pressure problems or other major engine problems

You dont even ned to do anything crazy with the fuel system. Just run a walbro and run a return line and you'll be set for around 400-460 whp.

Precision makes the SC61 turbo (Precisionturbo.net)

yeah he blew it up, your right it wasn't because of the psi levels, he had a major coolant leak and the motor severely overheated and I think thats what did it. I'm going to look into the SC61 turbo. In the next year or 2 I'm planning to do a full engine rebuild, and stroke it to a 2.2 liter, w/ k-pro. With the SC61 turbo what would be a good a/r ratio and WD, for say 400 whp. And what would be a safe boost level to run to achieve that power, estimated amount.

if you are set on the SC61.. you should check out the SC61 with a 76 trim .63 AR. Its a nice turbo and price is pretty cheap.

If you do plan on ditching the Greddy setup in the future, you can look into a Full-Race setup with a GT30R turbo or maybe even a GT35R.
