So my AC compressor seems to be fried (makes horrible supercharger whining noise when on).

Here are my questions:

1- What makes the AC compressor clutch disengage at 3500 rpm? Mine does not do this anymore, and before swapping a new compressor on, I want this fixed. I want the new one not to be damaged immediately by having it "over-revved".

2- Does the fan timer unit under the dash control when the condensor fan kicks on, or does it only control the switching inside to keep the AC temp regulated when running? As you can guess my condensor fan doesn't work either. It works fine when connected directly to 12V power source, so it's a switch or relay somewhere. Btw, I already replaced the underhood relay for the condensor fan with no change in the situation.

Hope someone has true technical experience in this. I'd like to get my AC pumping before it gets dawg-hot.

 

in regards to the 3500 rpm cutoff, the compressor clutch signal would turn off, disengaging the compressor from the pulley.

 

So there is a cutoff that disables the AC at higher RPM? (which is what I thought.) Mine will rev right up with the engine to 7000rpm. Sounds as if the clutch switch may be bad on mine. I'll make sure the new compressor also has a new clutch and pulley assembly. Thanks.

Any word on the fan timer control and its effect on the condensor fan?
