shock top hat bolt
Alright, im trying to install lowering springs and i got the front ones installed but for hte back ones i have come upon a problem. I removed the shock spring assembly and now i cant remove the bolt on the shaft of the shock. I have a 14mm wrench and a 6 mm hex for the shaft and no matter what i do....i cant get that damn thing loose.......note, i'm using hand tools...will a impact wrench make this task a dream?
stick a socket and extension on the end of the hex key to get more leverage.
PB blaster helps too.
if you end up stripping that hex key, then well youres just gonna have to use vice grips on the shock and best take it to a shop with an air gun. someone else just recently had this issue and resorted to having to do that.

dang...well......so an air gun should get it loose...?????is there anyway that i could get ahold of the shock shaft somewhere else besides the threads....and put pliers around it somewhere else?......this is driving me crazy!!dang honda rust...ALL OVER my car.....canadian civic....figures..lol
hmm i was gonna suggest on the shock itself underneath the top hat, but i just realized that the stock boot is covering it....
get some pb blaster. soak it for 30 minutes. theres no reason that nut should be so stuck on there.

you can use air tools for it...my friend did this for me
or you can put a vice grip on the shock itself beneath the top hat. i think you should be able to put a medium size vice grip in between springs. i did the same thing 4 days ago because my hex lock was all busted. just be careful not to scratch the shock too much

well...i brought it to a dealership so taht tehy could take an impact gun to it..and get them loosened up for me and....it was all going well, then he told me the one on the left looked like it had been cross threaded...so i was like ok, since it's loosend up a bit then i can go home and get it off there.....well he was right it was cross threaded and still is.....DAMNIT!!!!!......so i get home and check them to see if i can get them loose and without a problem i can get the right one off.....but the left one is STILL STUCK!!!........he even threded it a few times to break free from the cross threads......well....i guess i gotta go to a friends house and use his air tools for ONE bolt now.....i hate when crap like this happens.......
