I got a job at a basic automotive shop a year ago. I just got a job offer to go and work in a full race geared shop involving bmw,audi,and mercedes among other things. they also house a full chassis dyno that i would be able to learn how to tune from efi certified instructors. my dilemma is that i would have to start monday and leave my job friday. should i just flake out on my boss who trained me? it's just not professional but this is an oppurtunity of a life time. i'm only 17 so this could be a great start in racecar engineering, but i don't want to burn any bridges.....help me out fellow h-ters.....

your still young, go give it a try.

just try to do it as professional as you can. dont go crazy and burn down your bridges.

so if things dont go to well, hopefully you can turn back. haha

 

talk to the guy who trained you and let him know that this is the path you want to take. he will understand that you've got an opportunity in a field you are sincerely interested in and that you want to build a career around it...

make sure you have the job though, dont quit unless you've got the job 100%...

yeah no doubt, dont flake like that without knowing dam sure your hired at the other place.

 

Personally if the guy looking to hire you has the low life attitude that would force an issue like this then he probably isn't a very stand up guy. I would be very careful about a person not being able to understand your position. I will tell you this and that is your current boss may let you go as soon as you tell him your thinking about moving on. This is a tuff situation but I would be very careful of somebody forcing you to be so inconsiderate of your current employer. It is nice to see somebody caring about a person that tought them and helped them . Hard thing to find today no matter what the age.

That's kinda weird that they would want you to start that soon. Did they ask you when you could start? Usually, when you interview for a new job and they ask this, the normal answer is "well, I need to give two weeks' notice to my current employer, so I can start in two weeks" or something along those lines. Two weeks is pretty standard for changing jobs, and it looks really bad to leave with no notice. Along with that, respectable employers will respect you more for treating your current employer professionally like that: who in their right mind would want to hire someone that has demonstrated they have no problems with quitting with no notice?

If I were interviewing someone and a candidate told me they'd just leave their employer with no notice, I wouldn't bother extending them a job offer.

 

go to your boss tell him straigh up to his face.. see what happens...see what he says..if hes cool..go..i would of took that job in a heart beat..
