something wrong with vtec?
ok...so i have a 98 gsr w/ ITR LSD tranny. heres the situation... i can hit redline ***** to the wall 1st through 3 ...then when 4th gear hits 5000 rpm the check engine light pops on, it quits accelerating and this DISGUSTING sound that comes from the motor followed by the smell of burnt oil. i shift to fifth it accels fine until 5000. keep in mind the CEL is still on. i come to a complete stop and start driving again and now at 5000 rpm in every gear it does the same thing. if i turn the car off for a second (literally) and turn it back on the CEL goes off and it drives fine until forth gear at 5000 rpms...same thing al;l over again...i took it to autozone cuz i was told that ecu stores codes..well i turn my car off they hook up the gadget and it says no codes reported meaning they cant tell me nothing. somebody PLZZZZZZZZZZZZ help me!!!! by the way i already tried resetin the ecu...didnt work.
Check the code yourself... Do you know how to read them? There is a 2 prong connector call the SCS connector hiding under the dash where the ECU is. Pull it out pull a paper clip in both ends to connect them together and check the amount of blinks you get.... Long blinks =10 short ones =1
If its a 98 then its OBDII, you should have a data link connector under the dash on either the drivers or most likely the passenger side. Take it to autozone or your acura dealer and they can pull the code for you. I think that you only have to use the paper clip (or jumper wire) method if it is OBDI with no data link. I have an OBDI 95 gsr, and thats what I have to do. Just my .02
dont uhave to turn the car off b4 u use a paper clip and then turn it back to the on position?...cuz as soon as my car is turned off...the check engine light is off.
it sounds like your oil pressure or level. mine did the same thing in the same gear. i topped it off and it ran fine. try putting a qaurt in and report back...

It might have more than enough oil in it already.
