need new seal for tank
so i have a 10lb nitrous bottle. Went to go get it filled at checker because of their obsurdely low nitrous prices. The *** hats somehow broke the seal that seats the valve to the bottle (not the safety 'high-pressure' blow off). They told me i need to go to a welding shop to get it fixed.
After putting on an animal act in front of atleast 15 customers, i opened the yellow pages and called about 65% of phoenix's welding shops. They all think im crazy. I assume they told me to get this seal fixed at a welding shop because welders use the same type of tank for holding argon, right?
anywho, can someone point me in the right direction as to where to find this, probably very simple, o-ring?

cliff notes: seal that goes between valve and bottle from my nitrous bottle no worky. where do i get a new one?

wouldnt recomend welding that AT ALL!!!!!! no cylinder that is going to hold a pressurized gas should be welded... spend some extra cash and go to a welding shop get a new aluminum tank and valve for nitrous and make sure it is in pressure test
they aren't telling me to weld it. they are telling me to go to a welding shop, and get a new seal - because welders use these tanks, and apparently need replacement seals.

i would tell them
"you f.ucking broke it, you f.ucking fix it,
call me when the bottle is fixed and it is full
thank you "

Should have let them call the cops.
At any rate, find a welding or gas supply shop and ask them what you should do. OR maybe even take the valve off and see what is required to fix it?

ok i repair these tanks and hydro test them EVERYDAY !... there is no seal on these tanks ... now u said its not leaking from the safety ... so it is leaking from either the valve stem or the actual threads on the tank... i believe those tanks use a teflon paste on the valve threads approved for oxygen/pressurized gas that contains no petrolium/oil products... i like to use the paste and the teflon tape for reassurence because sometimes the elements like to chalk up the paste making for bad seals down the road.... now from what it sounds like is that the valve threads arent sitting right in the threads causing gas to leak from the neck of the cylinder... simply putt the tank in a big enough vise and remove the valve... then re-tapp the cylinder with correct pipe thread for the valve u are using ... MAKE SURE PITCH IS THE SAME... SOME valves are oversized from factory... once u have the valve out ... check with local welding supply store to get correct replacement valve... tape up with teflon and throw some oil-free teflon paste on the threads inside the cylinder neck for good measure... thread in slowly ... but the tell tale sign that u will have a leak is "if it squeaks , it leaks" so if u hear it squeking while revalving the tank threads will not hold pressure... i find that some squeking at the end of the threads is ok but make sure the threads are at least sitting 3/4 way down in the cylinder before some squeaking starts... if u have anymore trouble with the welding supply store ... try a fire protection and safety store ... if u dont know of one ... simply go to the nearest public place and read the tag on any fire estinquisher and *poof* ur golden!... they usually do cylinder pressure testing and repairs on their premises and could help u out with any troubles u may have....
