Default Scratching noise at specific RPM?!?

I have had quite a few problems with my crx, the most concerning .. i thought was an issue with the tranny.. but when I rev to 7krpm exactly, it will scratch and rpms drop and continue to scratch until you let off or change gears.. it doesnt happen everytime, it has happened 4 times in the last 2 weeks about 50% of the time..

so I reved it up in neutral and it did the same thing... it sounds mechanical but can it be something electrical? since it is at a specific RPM?

this is a first gen b16 with an unknown amount of miles.. doesnt leak/burn any fluids.. doesnt run as fast as it should.. something is just not right with ..

Any ideas as to what this could be? anyone have had the same problem?

Changed the oil? Could be a bad bearing as well.

Hmmm.. I get a rattling, shaking/scratching sound at 3900rpm whenever I'm cruzing. I can drive right through it and it will just make a quick sound, or I can hold it right on that rev range and I just drive around making that noise.

I wondered what it was too, I thought it might be similiar, but it doesn't seem like it is.

Sorry.

I know my cat rattles at about 3k rpm, may want to check to see if its a vibration.

my cat or heatsheild vibrates around 2.5k-3k , but its not that.. the car actually stops pulling and rpms drop loud scratching noise is the best way to describe it. i tried searching for this but could not find anything.. such a strange problem.. no one has had this happen?

no noise from the engine until its at exactly 7k,.. then it makes a scary grind/scratch and loses power it does not do it everytime either.. but when it does not do it .. it does not pull like it should after 7k , vtec engages good, you can hear and feel it..
it does need a tune.. there is an aftermarket fuel rail on there and no FPR.. the guy i bought it from was not too bright..

i get around 30mpg and doesnt burn/leak anything.. really scratching my head here..

could be a spun bearing.. you need a fpr though.. something internal is def grinding.. tear the block apart and find out..

Just a suggestion, get a friend to hold the rev's at 7k, you listen for the noise, I'm just guessing with your lack of power and grinding noise you may have a dist. bearing going. Pull the diz cap and check for red dust.
