Default Wheel Hop

When I shift at high rpm's my car just starts to shake like crazy and then it tapers off and everything is fine again. It only happens for a few seconds. How can I fix this?? Oh and my suspension is Spoon dampers and springs.

Install motor mount inserts or a radius bar.

To eliminate wheel hop there's a few things you can do:
- Run stiffer springs or dampers
- Run stiffer motor mounts
- Install a traction bar

There is one more option. You can opt for bigger tire/wheel. My 17 inch RO_JA Lt5's with pirelli p zero's weight about the exact same as my stock. They got rid of the wheel hop instantly without changing anything else.

Just another option to think about.

Actually, running a larger wheel/tire combo increases the likelihood of wheel hop.

Less tire sidewall = more hop.

Add some motor mount inserts.

Ok well it doesn't really matter what it is thats going on, I'm more concerned with how to fix it. So whatever it is (the shaking), how do I go about fixing it? Putting on my 16" rims (JDM Type-R wheels) it seemed to make things a bit better.

That goes against common knowledge about racing.

I have first hand experience that bolting on bigger wheels/tires produce more wheel hop. Remember? I used to have 17" wheels.

Less sidewall means the tire doesn't flex as much. When you're tire doesn't flex, it either spins, or it bounces creating wheel hop.

I also agree that what the original poster is describing is not wheel hop.

Also consider an engine torque dampener.....

Is it only 1st to second or second to third as well too? I used to get the same king of bouncing but it would only occur 1st-2nd shift. I will have my jdm 16's on here in about a week, i will let you know if it comes back again after i decrease in rim size from 17 to 16.

Yea it's essentially from 1st to 2nd. And the comment about not shifting at high RPM's, that doesn't exactly fix the problem; ignoring it won't make it go away

How do I go about "checking" my hubs?

check if your bearing are going bad, happened to a friend, lift the car, and shake the wheel from top to bottom see if there's play.

Ok so I've jacked the car up and there is no play at all in the wheel. I took the car for a full inspection from Honda and it said that new spark plugs and a battery was needed so I'm going to replace those today (I just bought the car a week ago). Any other ideas as to what it is?
I drove the car again trying to figure out when it happens and it's at launch, and from 1st to 2nd.

Sounds like user error to me.

Simple cheap solution, stop launching it so hard.

But the same feeling occurs when I shift from 1st to 2nd, how can shifting cause the same effect as launching too hard?

probably caused by your suspension... you can get wheel hop in 1st gear w/ stock suspension.. but i never see anyone do it in second.. you can improve by launching more smooth, don't dump the clutch right away, i'm not sure what can be done about second gear..

Cheapest ($40-$50)and best thing to do is get Energy or Prothane Motor mount inserts. They helped me on the steet and drag strip. They do make the car a little noisier. Good products
