Location of 1997 Civic Sedan SRS Module??
My daughter's recently purchased '97 Honda Civic SRS light was on when she got it so she took it into the dealer to have it checked. They said they tried to reset it but were unable to. They want unit $780 to replace the unit! I have found modules on eBay but was wondering where on the car the module is located? Is behind the passenger dashboard panel? THanks for any help!

Right behind the center console at the firewall side. May need to lift the carpet up a little. You will need to use the star allen wrench size T30 to unscrew the 4 screws in order to get it loose. Then unplug the connectors and it'll slide out. Oh, dont forget to unplug your battery just to be on the safe side.
I know this is an old thread, but I recently had to replace an SRS module on a 1997 Honda Civic DX 1.6 Manual Transmission. I searched the web and didn't find a clear explanation of the SRS Module location. I finally found downloadable service manuals on EBAY in a store run by royal.outlook.
I'm posting this on an old thread so maybe somebody else will benefit. I bought a used SRS module on Ebay and saved myself somewhere around $600 bucks or more on a 20-25 minute job.
I also put together a simple how-to with pictures, but don't see a place to upload the how-to, so I'll spell it out briefly in this response.
DISCONNECT THE BATTERY BEFORE REPLACING THE MODULE!
On my 1997 Civic DX if you look at the floor-level to the right of the gas pedal, you will see a black plastic cover just under where the dashboard begins. This is held in by a plastic screw. Remove the screw and pull the cover off.
Under the cover is a yellow wiring block-connector connected to the SRS module. Grab the yellow wiring block-connector (about 3 inches wide), rock it and pull until it disconnects from the SRS module.
You will see two T-screws (star screws). Remove these (I had to use a little liquid wrench to get one of the two loose).
Go to the passenger side and look for a similar black plastic cover in nearly the same location. Remove the plastic screw from the passenger side cover and then remove the cover.
You will see (again) two T-screws (start screws). Remove these (again, I had to use a little liquid wrench on one of the two screws to get it loose).
Remove the SRS module and put in the replacement SRS module.
Re-install the 4 star screws, re-attach the yellow wiring connector block to the new SRS module.
Re-install the black plastic covers.
Re-attach the battery.
Start the car and check for the SRS light going out like it is supposed to.
I didn't have to reset the replacement SRS module (even though it was used). If the light is still on, Google for how to reset the SRS module using a paper clip. If the light is still on, try to reset a couple of times. If the light stays on, either the new module is no good or you might have to look for something wrong with the seatbelt part of the SRS warning (Google this).
