switched to synthetic...got a ques.
After switching to Mobil one extended life for the oil this weekend, I thought it may be a good idea to take it easy while the engine/gaskets get used to the difference in oils. Anyway I ran my hand under the oil filter and there was a very little bit of oil there..just a drop. I definitely wiped this off after the change, so I am pretty confident that this is not left over from the change. Anyway what do you guys think could be the casue? The filter should be tight enough as I hand tightened first then used my filter wrench to turn once more until snug. What do you think?
BTW filter is Mobil1 as well.
Thanks Guys.

i am sure you checked...... but the old gasket came off with the old filter ?
if not, that is the leaking problem......and it needs to be fixed immediately....

You add a good point. I am sure it did but you know, I could be wrong. I know I looked at it, but I don't want to be wrong. As soon as I get home I will double check.
How many miles on your car when you made the change to synthetic? How old is the car?
Sythetics tend to clean much better than dino oil. If your car has relatively few miles and is not more than a couple years old, switching from consistantly using dino to synth is OK. If the car has higher miles or is older, dump the synth and go back to dino this weekend. The leaks that will develop you may not easily see (ie main seal, etc) and it will be cheaper to dump the expensive oil so that you aren't paying big bucks to replace every oil seal in the car.

If you overtighten and squish the O-ring seal too much on the oil filter, it might be deformed and not seal as well. Check the bottom side. Manual says hand tighten, then a 1/4 turn with a wrench.

they pentrate deeper than dino oil because their molecular struction.
but again,if you have high mile motor, there's high mile syn. oil for that.
max life valvoline syn. is very very good btw

Not quite. It's the detergents in most synthetic oils that "clean" the engine and remove carbon buildup that would normally seal the worn/old seals.

sorry took so long. 29,800mi
BTW - there is no more traces of oil under the filter. It may have sealed finally. The oil on the dip stick never budged, so it didn't really lose any oil.
