Maybe I'm just stupid but...
Okay, so here's the deal. Bought an 87 CRX Si with a nice aftermarket stereo installed. Down side though is that the head unit has a blown fuse. I'd pull it and replace, which should be an easy job, but I can't figure out how to get the damn thing out! I tried undoing the piece on the center console but that ain't it - so how the heck?
Do I need to take apart the whole dash or is there something I'm missing or what?
If anybody has any ideas, please let me know! I'd just take it to a shop but I highly doubt they'd know any more than I do (probably less) about my car.

they dont need to know anything about your car, goto a stereo place and ask them to pull the headunit so you can replace the fuse, if the deck was installed correctly the cage is holding it in place and you need a set of keys to get it out
basicly flat tabs of metal to unhook the clips keeping it in place, there located on both sides of the deck about midway

you can go to walmart and get the keys..i had to buy them once....they are in a U shape with the two ends being flat.
when you look on both sides of your cd player you should see two little hose. you just slide the U shape key in the hose and pull the cd player out.

If you don't have the keys to remove the deck, use butter knives. On either sid of the deck you should see little opening that the keys slide into, unless it's an alpine unit. Make sure that you remove the face and the beauty ring.
First, it's a "Panasonic CQ-CB8901U" head unit (pic in the picture thread). But how do I get the "beauty ring" off? Or does that go back to my prior dilemma of no obvious places to undo the facia surrounding it?
I have no idea what I'm doing with stereo equipment in case you haven't guessed, I'm more of a body work guy.

it just pops off, take a small flathead screw driver and stick it behind the beauty ring, listen for a small pop, it doesnt take much force at all, just a tiny bit of prying, its kind of like takeing off an interior panel but nowhere near as much force needed
there is a nifty tool you can use to take out headunits, its a plasic hook kind of thing, i dont know where to buy it, cus some jackass from circuit city left it in my car, i like it.. sorry that doesnt help you much.
post a pic of it, maybe someone knows where to snag one
btw circuit city sucks, they screwed up the second install on my car pretty bad and actualy ended up being the cause of a blown head unit, i install all my own **** since then, they dont solder connections either
