Wierd rumor about Reverse lights and VTEC not working... (more)
A friend once told me that if you wire up reverse lights on a Civic when doing a b16a swap, that your vtec will not kick on.
Is this true? This seems absurd.

honda routed the gauge cluster main power line through the backup-light fuse (labled as such on the reference panel under the dash). so if you have a EF (where the VSS is located in the cluster and not the tranny) it will kill the booster (5v signal to the computer) and vtec will not engage because the ECU thinks he is not moving. is he getting a code 17 when this happends? that should confirm it right there.

On my '89 crx, VTEC wouldn't work if there was some electrical load, such as the lights and fan were on. Oh, and it would only not work in 3rd gear and above. How soon VTEC would turn OFF was a function of how much an electrical load there was.
Anyone ever check if VTEC engages when you're going in reverse?
I have my Apex-i VAFC set to kick in VTEC at 4K in reverse! My backup lights then become my VTEC lights as well so that people know to get outta my way! I'll get some 1/4 mile timeslips of the reverse in action soon.
