Default Busted motor mount

My motor mount is busted on my 96 civic dx....see:

Can I just get new motor mount inserts all around for the engine, or do I need to buy the whole new mount?

Also...do you have to pull the engine to replace any of the motor mounts?

Thanks a ton!

Dan

Yes, no and no

You can get new inserts for your mounts, now in some cases the rubber has to be pressed in or the piece you replace is like half a mount with the rubber already there.

And there is NO need to remove the motor, just use a floor jack to suport it like you would doing a trans swap.

Cool...everything is stock on the engine, so what type of inserts should I be looking to get for my d16y7? Do any of the sponsors sell any motor mount insert kids here for a good price? Thanks for the quick reply.

energy suspension DOES NOT make an insert for that particular mount. you need to buy the prothane brand, left upper engine mount PN - 8504. should be $16 shipped.
i'm in the same boat again. i had the inserts but they fell out so i have to buy new ones...this time probably going to drill a hole into the insert and zip tie them together.

Inserts are not going to help that busted mount. It needs to be replace. You can buy an OE mount or and aftermarket replacement mount, or a whole engine mount kit.

Being your car is bone stock, I would recommend just replacing the mount with a new or used OE mount and call it a day. If you plan for a swap, then get yourself a mount kit (ie. Hasport, etc).

Welll, it is the motor mount insert that is busted...not the actual mount, so the inserts should work right?

There is no "insert" on OE Mounts. Research "inserts" a little more, you have the wrong idea as to what they are. The drivers side motor mount on 96-00 civic's is a fluid-filled, bonded elastomer mount. You cannot remove the elastomer and replace it in anyway. I believe Prothane makes an "insert" which helps backup/strengthen the existing mount, but will will not help and is no substitute for a busted mount.

Would it be ok to get a new motor mount and then put the inserts on just this single mount (driver's side) or will I need to put inserts on every mount if I'm going with inserts?

Like will that mess with the other mounts if just the driver's side mount has inserts?

Does that make sense?

Thanks!
