Default P_Adams read please

yeah i was driving today and i was reaching for my radar detector and i threw my car into reverse on accident cuz i wasn't looking where i was reaching...and i heard a pop like i blew the gear out... but then i put it back into drive real fast.

Now when im parked and put my car in reverse it makes a VERY loud noise, and reverse doesn't work

Would i have to get a rebuild? or is this fixable?

How did you manage to push the shifter into reverse considering you have to push the button to do so?
Does the car shift through all of the forward gears propperly? And does the car lock into park when it's shifted there?

EDIT: and I just caught the double post you should know better than that

I fear the worst. The only thing that you can do externally is check the control cable adjustment. (and that would have no bearing on your problem.
MooGoCow3 has a valid question. The Shifter control detents such that you normally can't go into reverse without releasing the handle.

This is one case where getting a replacement (good Recycled unit) may make better sense $$$-wise.

*L* I know I think he's trying to run in fear from the first thread he started with the nicely phrased title.

And dude you had to be shifting yourself holding the button in and over shot fourth.
Trying to pretend it was a five speed huh?

do you have a shift **** that looks like a 5spd **** and a boot over your auto shifter?

ive seen so many ricers with these, and those ***** keep the button depressed and causes problems like what you have now. if not, how can your shifter move from drive to reverse with just a bump?

Something is still a miss. If everything is stock with the shiftage, you HAVE to press the button to get the shifter into reverse from neutral. Therefore eithor the button is broken, or you have modified the shifter.

On a side note: freaking learn how to make a thread title. Titles using explatives and "P_Adams help me!" simply makes you look like you don't know how to use the search button, or have no faith in the other HT users. But then again, your not listening to us, when we are saying that you arn't telling the entire story.

I think we should add a counter to the top of the page for how many p adams please help threads get started...According to my calculations we will have 35-40 this year..P rocks

I shift mine all the time like that but mostly to down shift. And in a few emergency situations when the breaks need some help getting it stopped.I have never accidentally put it in reverse it will slide up in to neutral but you have to push the button to get it in reverse.

Exactly! you can shift down without pushing the button, or shift into neutral from drive without pushing the button. But to get from neutral to reverse, you must push the button. Therefore it is impossible (unless he has modified the shifter or has a broken button) for him to simply "accidentally shift into reverse."

And a lot of the guys one there have been doing work on there CB's since they came out.
and if you need parts they sell them too.
Good Luck!

he's going to get the same reaction over at CB7 as he did here. What he did just doesn't add up. And I don't think P Adams is a member over there so I think he may be stuck with not knowing what to write as a thread title.

and for the repost

PERSONALLY,,, P-adams has earned my respect , He is very knowledgable and as important, very helpful.. This guy heading a post mainly aimed at P-Adams, is because he, as well knows that P-Adams knows his stuff anf willing to help,, maybe P- was the only guy that helped him in the past...I do not think that he meant it as a disrespectful way to the rest of us who also try to help ....so do not take it personally ..

Almost everry post i am reading here is to the fact , that something is not right, that he has to push the button to get car in reverse,, well maybe he does not want to admit that he did a silly thing..........,
,
Yo Rle... do to the fact that you ( accidently or not ) put the car in reverse while moving and now you hear noise and reverse does not work,, the tranny has to come apart and see what kind of damage there is ,, reverse gear assembly might be toast ,,, I would not drive the car beacuse all the metal particles will go all over the valve body and seize up the valves,, than you will need a overhaul.. and it might be too late alreaday anyways.. take it to a shop that specializes in Hondas , Dealer is too expansive explain to them what happen and have them give you an estimate

Yor right he would. But I have a feeling he has enough on his plate as it is.

But not to be rude. You should have gotten that fixed. That's why the lockout is supposed to be there. I hope you learned something from this.

I haven't had an automatic in years, but can't all autos shift with the car off?

And what does that have to do with anything?

This should be a warning to all those who's shift lever buttons don't work like they should. It's there for a reason. Get it fixed.
