does cat have warranty?

i recently had a few things f-up on my car. thermostat went out and car was stuck on cold and never went to halfway. fixed that. second, i had one headlight burnt out. fixed that. then i got a check engine light, and maint. req. light, the shop told me it was a catalytic converter code and they did not do work on them. they then told me that an acura service place may replace the cat for free bc my car has less than 85k miles, right now i'm at 63k. is this true, either way i'm bringing it into the acura place tomorrow to see what they can do. the car's cat either has a hole in it or something, the noise is extremely loud. i also have mugen headers on my car and an apex n1 exhaust and i'm wondering if they wont replace the cat for free bc of the mods. anyone heard of this?
yeah it should cover it but it might not be the cat
and maint. req light.. you can reset it by pressing the reset buton
it's under your steering wheel.. like go UNDER it and look at it. and have your key in igntion and hold on to that button.
good luck

To reset the "maintenance required" light, press and hold the green button under the dash until the light goes out.
As far as the catalytic converter being under warranty, the information regarding emission control equipment warranty can be found in the owner's manual.

I guess it would depend on what you had done to the cat in order to put the header on. If you bastardized the cat then my guess would be that they wont. If nothing is out of the ordinary then you will be fine. But when the stealership orders you a new cat and tries to put it on and wont fit you will run into some issues.

thanks for the info. yeah, i bought this car used with around 49k miles. and i havent added one thing to the car, except put the stock intake box back on ( didnt care for the aem) . i havent looked underneath the car yet(i may prop it on a curb and take a quick check) , but i doubt the guy spent all the money on the mugen headers and apex n1 and screw up the cat fitment. besides, i havent had one problem with this until just now. does anyone know how much an itr cat costs from the stealer in the case i have to pay for one.

They have to prove that it is directly related to the problem before they can deny any warranty. This is a federal law.

I need more information to provide to my service department to see if it may be covered under warranty. In fact our District Parts and Service Representative for American Honda is here today, I can ask him.

no way in hell they will warrnty a cat that some muffler shop hacked up and welded a different size flange on. won't happen.

I remember reading in some warranty information that while all other items on the car may fall out of warranty due to mileage or time, the Cat Converter is still required by law to be covered for some really long period of time (10 years?)

well i called the service place in baton rouge, they wanted my vin # to see if my car was covered, but i wasnt in my car, and didn't have it written down, so i will have to get in touch with them tomorrow. I have not looked underneath the car to see if the headers are connected to the cat in a crappy way, but i will later tonight. Sorry, if i'm not giving you guys all the technical information you need to solve this problem, but i'm very impressed with people eager to help on this board. btw this is a 2001 itr #989 nhbp. does anyone know if the mugen headers fit close to stock on the cat and if the apex n1 exhaust fits close to stock without having to cut or screw up the cat.? i also searched and saw some people opt for carsound cats but if i cna get this replaced for free from acura i'll go that route instead. trying to save money , senior in college.
Don't Mugen's have a 2 1/2" collector, I thought they did, which wouldn't be stock, thus not covered. I'm probably wrong, but I'm bored, that's my 2 pennies.

Really depends on the dealership.
Anywho, Waffle808, please keep us posted.

I think it all comes down to installing the new cat. Since no dealership is just gonna give you the new cat they will have to install it. When the tech goes to line it up its not going to fit, more than likely the header side is going to be bastardized. Dealing with dealership over the past few years I dont think they are going to go thru the trouble of getting a new cat to fit your header.
Just my opinion though. GL
