Default Check Engine Light - Code 420 - Need a New Cat

First off car is 2000 Si

Any suggestions on a replacement cat? My CEL is on and I got the code which is 420 (catalyst efficiency below threshold). From my research it's most likely the cat or o2 sensor (or sensors)

Thanks to all

The CAT is covered under the USA 8 year / 80000 mile warranty. EVERY car company has to abide by this law. So if your car is less than 8 years old or less than 80kmiles , which ever comes first, the stealership has to cover it under its warranty and replace it for free or they can face federal trouble. If they refuse, threaten to contact American Honda and say that the dealership refuses to honor this warranty.
Just make sure that your cat still has the heat shield and everything. Also, make sure that it has not been messed with.

here's the quote word for word about the warranty.
"8 YEAR 80,000 MILE FEDERAL EMISSION DEFECT AND PERFORMANCE WARRANTY
# Covers repair or replacement of the following original Honda major emissions control components that cause the vehicle to fail to conform to an applicable EPA approved Inspection/Maintenance Program: 1) Catalytic Converter 2) Engine Control Module 3) Onboard Emissions Diagnostic Device (OBDII)
# Other EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) emissions warranty parts are covered under the 5 years / 60,000 mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty."

Thanks for the reply but I have 120,000 miles on my car so the warranty doesn't apply to me.

If you've got a 120k on the secondary O2 sensor, I'd start there as a probable cause before suspecting the catalytic converter.

If I were to switch the car to OBD1 (I'm thinking of getting a p28 ecu) do you still even need the secondary o2 sensor? I'm pretty sure you don't because there's only 1 o2 sensor then right?

Correct, and OBD1 doesn't throw bullshit cat. efficiency low codes either.

Biggest question:

Do you live in a state with emissions testing?

code 420 is for the CAT not the O2 sensor. Granted it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the sensor, i would more be interested in changing the cat. Before i found out about the law, i just kept driving with my bad cat. Then one day i started to hear really messed up noises. Turned out to be the cat and it sounded like my engine had a bolt in it and was hitting everything in there.
