92 GSR: CEL and no vtec?

Hey, I have a 1992 GSR witht he ORgianl B17 its got 158k on it and my CEL jsut come on recently... and the car wont hit vtec... I was wondering what some people think the possable problem could be? I figured maby the silanoid went out but I'm not sure that would throw a CEL all the time? any help or idea what this could be please help me out...

low oil will prevent VTEC from engaging and also throw a CEL

yup, it hapenned to me 2 years ago but I got a CEL that indicated low oil pressure right when the vtec didnt engage. I have an obd2 though...
