Default wastegate? ring?

i have this off brand wastegate, and im gettin ready to install the turbo kit. and there is this ring. a friend said to put it in the wastegate (the side connected to the manifold). so i tried that and it didnt go in all the way, it barely went in at all. My question is do you need this ring? what happens if you dont run it.

that ring is a step-down. if your wastegate is 35mm but the wastegate flange opening on your manifold is 32mm, then you use that ring to 'step down' your wastegate.

i hope that made sense

so you really dont need it? because i don't know where mine is, and is it fine to run without it?

it may also be the valve "seat" and without it, it may creep like a **** because it will not seal properly or efficiently. Pics would really help out though

well...i'd have to say that it really depends on the size of your wastegate and the the size of the wastegate flange opening on your manifold.
do you know the sizes?

*edit: i think you have the xspower/ssautochrome wastegate. if so, use that ring. without it, your wastegate will leak.

*edit#2: does your wastegate look like this?:

the thing is, i tried to get it in, and it wouldnt go in, there was a huge gap and it would leak even worst. i dont know what to do.

don't worry about that gap, the wastegate valve will depress as you tighten the bolts and the gap will close.

the steped side goes into the wastegate, it wont go in all the way. Should stick out 1mm or so.

yeah i got the same wastegate.. but mines come with 2 flange.. and one of the flange conncect to 1mm of the ring that stick out.. so i connect the wastegate with the ring inside to the flange that they provide and then connect to the mani wastegate flange... iono if that would work.. and iono if i made any sense at all but thats what i did ..

you need the ring! the gap closes as you tighten up the wg as someone else said.

is it even worth it to use ss autochrome as any of your turbo kit parts?

lol at people that say that if you dont use the ring it will creep. You prolly wont make over 2 pounds of boost IF THAT without that ring because the exhaust will be leaking pass the valve.

yep. The ring preloads the valve when the wastegate is tightened down so there is no chance of it leaking.

it is the other way. if the ring isnt there it will not spool due to an opening in the exhaust.

yes. go ahead and put on the gasket and tighten everything down. the ring will start to slide up into the wastegate as you tighten the bolts.

It's funny, I was just dealing with this today. I ordered a 35mm Tial valve seat for my WG, and it wouldn't sit flush for some reason. Now I know why.
