Default Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor FTP CEL 90 in EK 96-00 Civic

This post is to clear up some conflicting information I have seen on these boards.

For CEL and Emissions purposes you may need/want to add an FTP

You DO NOT NEED TO SWAP FUEL TANKS TO ADD THE Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor

You CAN add a Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor FTP and to the stock fuel tank.

All you need is the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor, EVAP Bypass Valve, EVAP Canister with valve solenoid on it , and to wire it up.

You could replace the floor harness to a model with an FTP OR wire it yourself (get a service manual)

You may also need to wire up EVAP Canister with valve solenoid on it (wires come from ECU) IF the plug for it is NOT on your engine harness

Post questions if you have them.

can you not just jumper a wire so that the ECU thinks you have pressure all the time?

Yes you can, but it is not 100% reliable. A potentiometer can be install at the ECU(and dial in the voltage it needs (0.5V?))BUT the ECU gets picky about having the same voltage all the time, and will throw the code anyway, sometimes.

The FTP and EVAP BYPASS are on the front left corner of your fuel tank. They are covered by a plastic splash guard. YOU CAN GET THEM OFF FROM UNDER THE CAR.

FTP=#1
EVAP BYPASS=#2, #10
and all associated hardware

EVAP Canister with valve solenoid on it=#11, #13

When the ECU runs the EVAP monitor, it generally looks for a change in FTP output. The ECU shuts down a valve to let pressure build inside the gas tank, which should mean that the FTP changes. If it didn't change, that would indicate that a hole could be present in the EVAP plumbing.

You can try to use an potentiometer, just don't count on it working since it's staying static in value.

Good to know the reason for the potentiometer unreliability
Thank you for contributi ng

That is great info for emmisions/obd2 scans!

I would not use it too long on a vtec motor though, who knows how the LS fuel and ignition maps run those motors (run lean?)
