Default fuel tank pressure sensor

I have a 1997 civic dx coupe, swapped a b16a2 motor. check engine light is on. I know it's the fuel tank pressure sensor. anyone have knowledge for wiring installing these new sensors.

Well, according to the Helms ETM:

All 96-98, D16Y7's used these pin assignments:
D10: Reference Voltage
D15: Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor Input
D11: Sensor Ground

Assuming your using a 99 Si ECU for your swap, it used these pin assignments:
C28: Reference Voltage
A29: Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor Input
C18: Sensor Ground

So what ECU are you using?

I'm using a 98 ITR (P73) ecu. Just to rephrase, what I meant was. None of the 96-00 Civic Dx have the fuel tank pressure sensor. This needs to be installed near the gas tank after a swap, in my case it was a B16A2. Now without adding these sensors you will get a check engine light. I just want to know if anyone has every installed this before? Thanx

I'm getting the same thing since I converted my 96 DX to an EX. The EX ECU looks for that sensor too. I think we might be able to add a resistor or something to fool the ECU rather than installing the stupid sensor.

Say HUH?

What do you mean "None of the 96-00's Civic's have this sensor..."...I just posted the pin numbers that the senser uses (+V, Sensor Input, Gnd).

As I sit here and look in my 96-99 Helms ETM, the D16Y7's that used them are:
NO 1996 Model
1997 - California Coupe & Sedan LX
ALL 1998 Models
ALL 1999 Models

As for the D16Y8's (and 99' B16A2) :
1996 - ALL Coupes
1997 - ALL Coupes & California Sedan
1998 - ALL Models
1999 - ALL Models

This information brought to you straight from the Helms ETM, P/N: 61S0305EL

EDIT: OBD-II uses this sensor to detect a hole in the EVAP lines. Imagine this, the ECU closes the Purge Control Solenoid thus allowing gas fumes to build pressure in the tank. The ECU monitors this sensors output to see if a hole is present, as this hole would allow this pressure to escape to the atomshpere, and the EPA just doesn't like that.

Ya your right. But my 1997 Civic Dx coupe (KC model) at the front in the engine compartment where the emissions control cannister is, i believe my DX is different from the si, the dx is missing:

-fuel tank pressure sensor
-evap bypass solenoid valve
-evap control cannister vent shut valve
-purge connector

Am i correct?
Do you know if i would have to wire all these components to get the Engine light to go off?

You need to insure that the inputs the ECU 'expects' to see are wired up. Is the ECU your using (P73) expecting to see these items...I don't know...I don't have an Integra Helms.

I had the same problem. B16A2 motor in a 97 DX hatch. The only way I got the light off was to change the whole wiring harness (under dash and floor harness). Tried a resistor, didn't work. You could go to OBD1. The whole harness swap is not easy as it requires removing the dashboard, interior, etc. I just got tired of trying to find out another way. I'm sure if you study the differences between the two models, there should be a way to add the wires for the sensor, I just wanted to have the wires the way it should have come- direct plug and play. Most people will not go this route because of the cost and labor. Just thought I'd put my two cents in.

Maybe I should be selling my solution here!
I swapped a 98 B18c1 into my 97 DX coupe and had the same cel.
So I quickly checked over my helms, soldered a few parts together, and wham-o... no more CEL.

I'll sell schematics and wiring diagrams of my 'invention' for $5 paypal-ed to me!

I'll mail a completed device anywhere in Canada or the U.S. for $20

It's really quite simple so I won't sell the schematics...
Just get a diode and a resistor (or a potentiometer...that's what I used for tunability) and then splice into the proper sensor reference voltage and ground, then place the output on the PTANK pin on the ecu and you're good to go.

If anyone bugs me I'll check what value resistance to use to put you in the proper voltage range...

I've given the needed ECU pin-outs in the second response of this thread.

The outter two terminals would go to +5v and gnd....doesn't matter which. The middle terminal will go to the PTANK input.

never mind went to radioshack and found one part # 271-0215 ....works good and it's only $2.99....no more CEL

I can't take credit for someone elses idea....I don't remember the particular thread in which the idea was presented.

But I'll take a little credit for my kick-*** write-up on it.

So, does this mean that the potentiometer regulates voltage sent to the ecu?

do you splice the potentiometer into the wires of the ecu or does the ecu only connect to the ****?

Anyone have pictures of this?

yes, just tap into the wires....I just did this mod to my brother's 96 dx hb.
