Default 87 2.0Si surging/hunting at cold idle

Hi guys, I'm new to accords (in fact still shopping for one) so please don't fame too hard if this has been done to death...

I went to check out an '87 the other day, it all looked OK but on cold start up it would idle high, drop, then pick up again.... Most other EFI cars that I've driven idle high on cold start then gradually drop down.

Once it was warm and driving idle was steady at about 1000rpm (auto).

Any ideas what could explain this? Is it normal?

take the top cover off on the FIV ( fast idle valve) tighten the valve on the inside ,,put cover back on,,and you are set to go

Honda master is pretty much right, That will correct the problem most of the time. Other problem is that those valves are set at the factory and if the idle changes the fast idle valve is worn and replacement may be the only cure.
