ek supension question
this morning i woke up and planned to install coilovers on my EK project car.
the car already has lowering springs in the front and stock suspension in the rear.
i did alittle research and read that i could unbolt the top shock bolt before jacking the car up and that would decompress the spring and shock so i wouldnt have to buy/rent a spring compressor.
my problem is the rear shocks allen key slot in the bolt seems to be stripped, meaning i cant grab the bolt and loosen the nut becuase an allen key no longer grabs inside. and thats why i assume the previous owner never installed the lowering springs in the rear, they stripped the key out.
i assume theres no way to seperate the shock and spring now that the allen key bolt is stripped correct? should i put off installing the coilovers now? so the car wont have to long of down time?

Do not completely remove that bolt before jacking the car up. I'm sure people do it, but I don't like that idea at all. If you want to get away without a spring compressor; when you take it off the car put the assy on the gound with the tophat pointing at somthing that isn't too fragile. Put your foot on the spring, and then crank the bolt off, and the tophat will probably be launched into the wall. I don't like this idea either; but it's a bit safter than what you were going to try.

If you're reusing the shock, wrap the shaft with some rubber (so you won't damage it) and grab it with vice grips. If the shocks are bad, I just cut the shaft wih a sawzall or grab the bare metal with the vice grips depending on what I have onhand.
