ok please dont hate me, i searched it and the computer was flooded.

i just bought my buddies 91 crx si. 279k leaks and burns oil. (still runs though) i want to try and rebuild the engine but where do i even start. i do not need performance this is only going to be a good reliable car. what parts do i need and how much will it cost. or how do i even know what is wrong with the engine, to start fixinig it. any info will be great. thanks

 

First do a tune up on it.

You probably need to change the valve cover gasket(easy). That might fix your leak and burning oil, but you may also have a blown headgasket. Where is the oil leaking from?

Change the spark plugs, cap and rotor, air filter, oil and filter, tranny fluid, maybe the timing belt, change the coolant, maybe change the fuel filter and fuel injectors. That is some, but not all you change to get it running in tip top shape again.
