Default New Topic: Difficulty Determining what steering knuckle to use

I bought a '99 EX with some front end damage. I took a quick look of what was damaged suspension wise and decided to get a new upper control arm and strut. I got both of them off a '97 EX. Now the hub assembly won't bolt onto the upper control arm, it hits the spring. Is the hub bent? Here's some pics.

Here it is originally:

Here are the two upper control arms (99 in the foreground):

Here's what I'm left with ('97 EX strut and upper control arm installed):

So what do you think? Is the hub bent? What else could it be?

the 97 A -arm is the same as the 99 one. So if its still hitting something else must be bent, and im guessing its the knuckle

That's what I thought. I bought a knuckle from a '98 DX sedan today. I was told that it should work. I'll post my findings.

OK. No one knowledgable must have read this because the DX steering knuckle is different than the EX. The EX caliper doesn't fit in between the disc and the flange to bolt it on. Even if it did, the DX disc is smaller.

OK. I've been reading the FAQ's and it seems there isn't a clear answer on some of the things I've been looking for. Is the '99 EX front spindle the same as the '99 Si? I've read that the calipers are the same as the Si, but I also read the Si calipers are bigger. Which is true? Then I read that DC Integra caliper's are larger than the Si and will bolt on, but will they bolt onto the EX spindle? One more question I'm having a hard time getting answers to: Will a DC Integra steering knuckle fit on a '99 EX? I've heard both it's too tall and gives positive camber and that it will fit... I'm confused.

Is this true?

Kind of contradictory...

Anyone have an answer?

I found a thread that talks about Integra knuckles on an EX.

Here: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1432148

Here's some quotes from it:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by 94eg! &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Yes the larger front rotor civics have the same knuckle as integras... </TD></TR></TABLE>

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by slammed_93_hatch &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">as 94eg! said if they are 10.X then its the same as the tegs.</TD></TR></TABLE>

...and then this.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Redline96LX &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">NO people.

94-01 Integras and 92-95 Civic EX/SI ABS models take the same knuckle. 96-00 Civics take knuckles that are smaller.
</TD></TR></TABLE>

This seems to be a pretty unclear issue.

If these questions can't be answered here maybe a mod could move this topic to the suspension forum.

I don't know about the compatibility between the integras, but 96-00 EX / Si knuckles are interchangable. The A-arms between all the models are interchangable, but it's the difference in rotor size that makes the knuckles different. I would assume the Teg with 10.1" (or 10.4 or whatver it is) rotors would be interchangable; but I don't know what models that came on.

The quote from that thread where he states the 96-00 uses smaller knuckles is wrong, because it varies by trim level.

Which trim level uses what?

for nuckles

cx,dx are the same
and ex and si are the same

for the upper arm, it looks like u got one off an SI. they are different than the ex. the upper and lower arms off the si are diff from the ex. u can use the teg knuckles but tahts, true ur camber will be off. if u have lowering springs, such as the sport ones from eibach or h&r, get an alignment and it will be fine.

96-00 EX/SI uses the same knuckle, which are bigger than LX, DX, CX, HX. So if u want one that works, u have to use an EX or SI ones.

You can use knuckles off 94-01 integras as well, they are the sae size as EX/SI, but the integras use a caliper that is a bit larger than civics. So if u want to use integra knuckles, u have to swap over your existing brake setup over to the new knuckle

Can you say mixed reviews?

oh ya forgot about that, ya ur camber will be a bit off if u use integra knuckles, but an alignment should fix that. If u are that worried, then get EX knuckle, same as your car correct? That should be wasy to find

Dammit. The problem is, here in northern MN there isn't much for Civic's. Especially newer Civics, and more over Civic EX's. Thanks for clearing it up though!

Just to clear something up. camber isn't adjustable, front or rear, on our cars. You can buy camber kits for the front and rear (or shims for rear). But without an aftermarket UCA, camber isn't adjustable.

Yeah, I figured it wasn't adjustable. I got it fixed today. The local junkyard nailed be with a rusty spindle and a bad balljoint for full price!

At least I finally get to drive my first Civic!!!
