Default help identify exhaust part please

i just installed a catback exhaust on my 95 civic dx. just wondering, after the header and the downpipe, there is a piece which kinda looks like a cat, it has a heatshield and has a screen in it, then next is the cat, then pipe, then muffler, what is this piece with the screen in it?

u sure the thing ur looking at isnt a cat? the cat has a screen in it and a heat shield around it?
maybe the thing u think is the cat is a resonator and the thing u tihnk isnt a cat is the cat

could be...beats me...but the thing that i think is the cat has a screen too, but its on the inside walls, the other thing has the screen where exhaust has to pass through, kinda like a filter, could be a cat i dunno, i just know my catback kit came with a cat, and i installed a new one, but the piece im asking about did not come with the kit, i still have the stock one on my car, just dunno for sure what it is

I don't think you know what a cat is (not trying to be a dick).

Which part in that pic are you thinking is the "cat"?

Yeah thats the resonator. Its basically a muffler in the middle of the pipping to keep it quieter

it is the cat. converter thats why they call the exhaust system CAT-BACK cuz messing with the cat is illigal, and #34 is a resonator for toning down the exhaust noise

the cat usually has the o2 sensor in it and the resonator will not......hope this helps.

dude that's the cat, the other "bump" behind that is the resonator which also helps muffle the exhaust noise
