Default b16 swap and runs 4000 rpms at 70 mph, is that right for a S1 tranny??

I have just done a b16a1 swap in my 88 crx and I think it is running at a too high of rpm at high speeds such as 70 mph. At 70 im running at 4000 rpms. I don't know if the gears are really low or if there is something i can do to fix this. If there is something i can do to fix this what would that be???? thanks.

Perfectly normal. Short gears = Torque free engine with high acceleration.

Get a B18A (LS cable tranny) if you want longer gears with lower RPM. Or just put in the fifth gear.

Yes thats right. There are 100+ posts on B16 cable transmissions because no one searches. No there is nothing you can do to fix it, that's just how transmissions work. Why wouldn't you want short gearing (besides to save gas and accelerate slower.)

The only thing you could do would be to run a taller tire...in effect changing your final drive gear ratio. Problem is you can't really go much larger without rubbing...and of course your speedo will be off.

thanks for the help. that is what i was thinking the cause of it reving so high was. I just wanted to make sure and get someone elses opinion on it. It runs great and it will take off on the interstate at about 70 too. If i need to pass someone or just mess with em it doesnt take much on the peddle to go!!!

Don't worry so much about this. The B16A was designed to run these kinds of RPMs for extended periods of time. In other words, you won't hurt it. Just keep up on your maintenance, use good synthetic oil, and it will be fine for years to come.

Do you know y the vtec would not be ingaging on my 0bd0 swap. I know the wires have to be connected becaue when the wires are not plugged the check engine like comes on when the car is started. The light only comes on when the vtec is supposed to ingage at 5000 rpms. Where can i find the codes for the ecu. It shoots codes but i don't know what they are to find out what the ecu is not getting to engage the vtec. thanks again in advance.
