Hey guys, I'm currently running an LSV setup (components in my sig) with my stock LS tranny. It sucks.. the LS tranny should be nowhere near an all-motor setup. Anyway, I'm on a budget and I'd like to know if throwing a better clutch and an 8lb flywheel in my LS tranny is going to be anywhere near the effect of having an actual GSR transmission? Also, about how much does a full GSR tranny swap run in Southern California? Regearing is also something to be considered if it's within reasonable means. I'm looking at no more than $400-$500

No, it won't be anywhere near a gsr trans, just putting a light flywheel in that is.

Unless you find a good deal on a tranny, you'll probably spend more then 500.

 

do you think it's worth putting in the lighter flywheel and better clutch? i'm not into competitive racing and i've done well in the canyon passes (retired) thus far. i guess i just want the feeling and assurance to know it's there when i need it. but yeah, do you think i should just go with the flywheel?

 

Lightweight flywheel will be a lot cheaper,
If you're not into racing, and it's more of a dd, then ls should work out good.

Unless you find a gsr trans cheap, stick with the flywheel.
and you can always bring all that over if you Do eventually find a gsr trans,
long as it's hydro&hydro and not mixing with cable.

Also, I have yet to, or actually never did get any kind of track times between my ls, and gsr trans, but it's not like you'll be seconds faster, or feel like you added 10-20hp.

 

changing your clutch and flywheel will only help put your power to the wheels and rev faster but if you're talking about an LS tranny not being good on all motor setups reliability wise, changing your clutch and flywheel wont do anything

Good idea, you can always buy a good clutch & Flywheel now , then save up for your GS-R Tranny. Then When you get the GS-R tranny you'll have a sweet setup alreay having the Clutch and lightweight flywheel

 

just save up a couple of hundred more then get a b16 tranny...im pretty sure you can find some from 600-700 in so cal....i'v seen a couple of gsr trannies in the bay go for about 600 too...

 

Get the B16 tranny.

 

i would, but i do a lot of freeway driving sitting at 80mph and i really don't want to be revving the crap out of my lsv. i'm sure it'd be sex, but i just can't.

 

well if you want the good's of both worlds....save your hard earned money...and get JDM ITR tranny :-D has GSR 4th and 5th gears with 1-3 of a b16 :-D

 

i also have lsv and am saving for the jdm itr, have always heard its the best all motor tranny, also it has double syncros in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear, cant wait

 

how much do those things run?

 

ive heard around 1200 used and are pretty rare

 

get a jdm b16 w/lsd and ill install it for you at my shop (at a small minimal cost of course!) get the clutch and flywheel too. lightened flywheels are the **** on NA cars. id get the lowest gearing possible to make use of the torque curve on your LS/V. Honestly ive seen b16a trans go for like 600-900 bucks! look around

 

go with GSR tranny

 

i have LS-V and im running 96' spec ITR trans. LSD is king. see, i was GONNA get a b16 just for the quickness off the line, but then i daily my car....so i got a ITR for the final gear....and LSD.

how much were you able to get yours for? i don't think i can spring for 1200 bucks on an ITR. guess i'll have to get the GSR tranny. i don't even know where to begin to look.

 

ask not so civic on here. pm he can build you a custom tranny. im getting a trans. with gears 1-4 from gsr and 5th from an LS with itr lsd and final drive for 900 shipped!

Same here. I just got my gsr engine swap, as far as gearing its not a mindblowing experience but 3rd gear is good though. B series hydro trannys are becoming harder to find. I would expect to pay about 600+ for a good gsr and 800+ for a good b16.

 

hmm. my friend with a gsr motor and tranny felt a hell of a lot lighter than mine.
