Gsr block has like a higher compression piston and a shorter stroke as the LS block has like a lower compression piston if i dont recall but with a LONGER stroke... now a vtec head onto a ls block will bump the compression up for a torque monster... if your going with all motor i would go with a LS block and slap a vtec head on it but GSR will do good also.. both are good blocks i say just the GSR has better water pump and oil pump cause of the VTEC.. but you can alway swap that out to the LS block it'll bolt right up...

Both are aluminum. GSR block has oil passages for a VTEC head. LS block doesn't.

The whole complete bottom end differs even more.

the blocks themselfs are made out of the same materials. the gsr block has oil squirters for added cooling on the pistons, the gsr block has a shorter stroke crank and longer rods for less side wall load on the engine at higher rpms, the pistons are 10.2(usdm) 10.4(jdm). gsr blocks have tri-metal bearings

the ls block has a no oil squirters, its has a larger stroke with shorter rods for more usable power in the low rpms. the added stroke adds more sidewall load on the engine at higher rpms. ls blocks have bi-metal bearings.the pistons are 9.2(usdm)&9.4(jdm)
