Block Decked, Timing Question
Ok my problem is that my b20vtec sounds like it is running on 3 cylinders. It is a fresh rebuild: cp pistons 11.5:1, eagle rods, stock headgasket, extrude hone b16 head, skunk2 pro1 cams and adj cam gears. What i am thinking is that since the block was decked .007 and the head i am not sure about, should i have to mess with my cam timing? Only cel is vtec pres. I am getting spark in all cylinders along with fuel. And my compression is good. Any ideas are welcome, but i am wondering if i would need to advance or retard my timing.

.007 is nothing to worry about. general belief is .012 = 1 deg retarded. So at most you may wish to advance your timing .5 deg. Which isnt worth the trouble.
ok so the car still runs like ***. i tried advancing both and i think it got worse, white smoke out the back like crazy. so i retarded both 1* and it did not smoke as bad bad, but who knows if that means anything. i was told by one guy to retard 3-4, and other people say advance1-2. has anyone had any 1st hand experiance? i found this info on the cams.

did compression and leak down tests, both are healthy as can be. the white smoke smells like straight gas. How do i degree the cams?

Sounds like an engine management/tuning issue.

just edited my above post.
if not install one
if you run a straight hose from the back of the block to the IM it will smoke
install a PCV and it will stop smoking and idle fine

if you just ran a hose from the black box on the back of the block to the IM and didnt put a PCV valve inline your engine will smoke and idle irratic.
if you did this take the hose off you intake manifold and put your finger over the hole. car will probably idle right down and stop smoking like a bitch

ah **** youre right.
do you have any hoses running from the valve cover to the IM pulling out crankcase pressure??? look into it.
i had it happen on time, put a PCV valve inline and good to go
