TUNE UP
ok so i'm planning on doin a tune up on my car this friday can someone tell me do i have to buy to get the best out of my engine. and also lately i been hearing this ticking noice near the belts??????????
oh the obscurity.................lol..............I have the same ticking noise, I was thinking maybe the valve lash needs to be adjusted?
As for your tune-up, assuming money is no problem, I would recommend the following:
First:
Check all fluid levels
Check all belts for cracks and proper tension (1/2 twist by hand)
Go to local parts store and purchase:
New Fuel Filter
New Air Filter
New NGK Copper Spark Plugs
New plug wires
New cap and rotor
PCV valve
Any needed fluids or belts.
Lucas Oil Fuel System Cleaner ($4)
Repair Manual (if you have no idea how to do any of the aforementioned steps)
Finally, get an oil change if needed.
Also, sometimes ticking noises are caused by sticking parts on the head. Add an engine cleaner before your next oil change, follow instructions (run car for awhile), change oil. Its solved my problem before, albeit on an old American car.
Good luck.

here's is the answer to your ticking question, a few posts down from yours

if you've got a 96 Integra getting the valve lash adjusted wouldn't be a bad idea (10 yrs old). If you want to learn about the head of your engine, buy a manual, a valve lash tool (or borrow one from parts store) and do it yourself (DIY). Its not very hard, there's plenty of documentation online, and you'll learn a lot in the process about how the top of your engine works.
