Default VSS affect performance in GSR???

I was wondering if an inop VSS will hurt your performance. Mine is inop and I have no speedo w/ a CEL. It feels like its not running the same, and I didnt know if it was just me. Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

I wasnt sure if the ECU used that sensor for timing advance or anything important of that sort. It just feels like my car has run crappy since the CEL came on for it after i broke it.

I don't believe the speed is used for the timing..considering the timing is set at idle..make sure that the cam gears both match the same direction..

well..vtec engages according to the rpms and not the speed so it should still engage...my VSS does not work and the tach. still functions.

Everything that I have read, says that a minimum speed must be reached before the VTEC system will engage. The VSS is needed for this.

What CEL is stored?

Yes, and the ECU sends a signal to the VTEC solenoid to allow this oil pressure to reach the rockers. The VTEC will not function without the VSS with a stock ECU.

Thank you for all of your input. To be honest, it feels as though my high rpm's are very sluggish, but the sound of the butterflies in the intake opening made me think I was crazy, considering I couldnt hear vtec engage in the first place, but I guess if its not engaging it would explain why my car is running like butt.

ok this is all the true stuff....

vtec will only kick "IF and ONLY IF":

speed is at least 20 mph (based on vss imput)
oil pressure is X amount
rpms are X amount
and throttle is at X amount

no vss no vtec
oil oil pressure sensor no vtec
no position sesor(for the rpms) no vtec
and finally no tps no vtec

the butterflys are not based on speed they are based on rpms only so you should still hear those around 6k i think.

oil pressure is only one of the conditions that must be met in order for vtec to operate.
rpm, speed, the car being in gear (not neutral), and engine temp are all factors.
