GSR warming up ?
Hey. I was just wondering if anyone that has a gsr integra has the same problem I do. When I warm my car up in the morning it seems like it takes longer then most other cars. I swapped the thermos, but its still the same. Just wondering
mine idles at about 2k for a few mins and then it drops to about .6k and stays there .. nxt time i turn on my car if its only been of for a hour or so it idles at like 1k for a while and drops.. only in the monrin is it at like 2k..

same here.. but ive only had my car for a few months and its been cold out.. so if i leave my car for 3+ hours it has to warm up when i go to start it.

Mine has done that since new. If it is below 30 deg. F, I have to drive about 5 miles (35-40 MPH) to reach full heat. The needle will not move until 1+ miles. I thought that the thermostat may be sticking, but the temperature is rock steady once it reaches the full operating temperature. That operating temperature is unaffected by seasons.

i have a 2000 gsr and every morning when i start my car its at 2k or 1.8 k and yea it does take a while like about 8-15 minutes for it to idle at .6k....maybe its just us integra.....its normal
I was thinking the same thing, "Why does it take so long to warm up?", and I've noticed the rpms are low also. I let mine sit for a couple minutes before I go to school, and it still isn't getting heat until I drive for about 7-8 minutes, then it starts warming up.
Yah, when i drove my integra last winter, i would start my car and let it warm up a good 10 min before school. When i got back out to the car, the needle was about 1 dash above the cold line. After about 2 miles of driving, then it would go up to 4/10 way (170 degree thermostat).
This winter, i am driving a 92 beretta with a 2.2l. Takes about 7-10 min to reach HALF way. And it doesnt idle at 1700+ rpm either.
My guesing why it takes so long for our motors to warm up is becuase maybe they have a larger coolant capacity in the block than most motors. (Just guessing) Obviously, if this were true, since their is more coolant in comparison to the size of the block, it would take our integras a longer time to warm up. Dont hold me for this to be true, i am just guessing. I know our cooling system capacity is about 7.5 qts (about 2 gallons) so our radiators might not hold jack ****. All in all, im GUESSING that our ratio of block coolant capacity to motor size is greater than most other vehicles, which is why they take a longer time to warm up.

who cares....
i start my car and wait 5 second and i start to drive it..
you don't have to wait that long to drive it. just keep it upder 4000 rpm for the first 5-7 minutes...
and when it gets warm-up the v-tec will engage right....
all you guys are doing is wasting gas when it is idling so long.... IMO...
i used to do what you guys do, but my pops is a mechanic and he told me ...
you only have to wait if your car is a carburator..

I just like to take care of my stuff I guess. every car I had I let it warm up for a while. But ya it sound the same for all gsr's then about 10min till warm up.

your dad is a really smart person...sigh. Thats why your car will have more and wear and tear than others who let their cars warm up..
you have to let oil circuate and lubricate the engine, even i know this and im a noob -.-

the only serious problem you could have by not waiting for your motor to reach optimal operating temp or for the idle to drop down to .6k is if you have a turbo setup. You want to allow the turbo to be properly lubricated so you dont break anything

If you need defrost, you still need to wait for heat. I drive mine when it is "cold" but I keep the RPM below 2000.

yes it does waste more gas because the car is running amuch richer fuel pattern. and yes integras due take a while to warm up but also ive never heard of overheating being a problem. just give your car some time to warm up its worth it

warm up for a minute or two and drive. Just don't race with it or take it to high rpm when the motor is cold.
well after i swapped IM's, i have to sit in my car and let it warm up for like 2 min when its kinda nice out, but as much as 8 min when its really cold just for my GSR to idle. I bought an HP Racing IM and when i installed it i bent the IACV breather nipple so it gets almost no air at idle. Once it does warm up, it idles at 400rpm.....lol
Once i fix what i wrecked, it should run fine....
