Searched on the forums for this, but pretty sure anyone could answer this: What does advancing your timing belt actually do? In depth detail would be gewd. thanks a lot. no flame, only the answer<3

I think you mean advancing the timing at the distributor. Cause advancing the timing belt doesnt make sense.

I havent done it before, but i beleive that the overall effect is to cause your motor to reach its peak horsepower earlier.

Also, make sure to search the archived content. I just did and found plenty of info on your topic.

Literally, your causing combustion slightly sooner (advancing) which in turn can develop more power.

if advanced to far, you'l encounter other issues such as pre-detonation where essentially your motor is combusting so early that the power is totally lost (it attempts to push the piston back down to early).

To expand slightly on the above post....

You are speaking of ignition timing. Ignition is the point when the spark is generated, causing the inigition (igniting) of the air/fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. From the factory, your timing is set at a certain point for best fuel economy and performance.

When you decide to alter it, you are changing the time at which the spark generates. This causes the air/fuel mixture to combust when the piston is at a different point of travel (before it gets to the top).
