Default Best/stickiest tire for 16" rim and 400+HP

I'm sorry to be so vague in my title but I have tried searching and I get no results for 16".

I have 16" Volk TE-37 rims and last year I installed a turbo on my GSR swapped EG. I had around 270whp and traction was a real issue for me even though I was running 205/40/16 Falken Azenis RT-615 tires.

Fast forward to this year......new turbo, 84mm sleeved block and about 150 more HP than last year.

I have the ITR front calipers/11" rotors so the smallest rim I can use is a 15". For the drag strip I have 15" rims and 225/50/15 BFGs but I need something for the street. What is the stickiest tire I can use on the street in a 16" diameter? I don't really care about treadwear, I just want traction.

I have looked at the BFG KDW-2 which TireRack have in a 205/45/16 size but the reviews on their site said they were crap so I need to find some different tires.

The Falken Azenis RT-615, which is now available in 215/45-16, which will fit fine on your teg. (205/40 is too small.)

Cool, thank you!

I love my Volks and I want to keep them and that is why I am looking for a sticky 16" tire. I have not seen the 215/45-16 on any of the websites I have looked at yet. Thanks for the tip.

If traction was an issue with 270hp on RT-615, you may need to step it up to a tire like Toyo RA-1 or drag tire that fits your rims. Both of which will not last very long at all, but getting 450hp to hook up is going to be an issue with any tire, thats alot of power.

I'm betting you'd be able to light up RT-615 well into 3rd gear no problem.

With 270hp the RT-615 would grab at the top of 2nd....Hitting the gas in 1st was a waste of time - I had to feather it until mid way through 2nd to get anywhere quickly.

Bear in mind that this was on the street at full tire pressure too. I'm going to be using a boost controller to limit boost in 1st and 2nd so that I can at least give my tires a chance but I want the absolute stickiest tire available in 16"

Thanks for all the help so far - I had never even heard of Vulcan tire!

Just noticed RA-1 aren't available in any 16" size that would fit your car, nor is Hankook Z211. So looks like RT-615's may be the only real solution for 16" variety. 15 or 17" would provide other options like Toyo RA-1, Hankook Z211 but 16" is limited.

Boost limiter will help alot too

Thanks for that info...WHICH drag radial comes in a 16" inside diameter and will fit on a Honda?

I already have 225/50-15 BFGs but I want to be able to keep my Volks.

were doing a group buy for the new M and H's soon, the 615's spun in 3rd gear with my setup this year, their good for all motor but in all seriousness hop in our Winnipeg group buy and save the hassles of super expensive street radials.

Bah! What do you need M&H tires for....you drive a Skyline

I don't think M&H do a 16" tire that fits either.

The following two tires will provide you with excellent grip, and are both DOT legal. Although very unwise to run them on the street, they will hold up to it (I have ran both of them for short distances on the highway). I didn't bother to include unrealistic tires such as the Hoosier R3S05.

Kumho V700 205/45VR16

Yokohama Advan AO48 195/50WR16

Wow, I've never heard anyone mix up tires that are so totally different from each other, and throw in opinions that don't make any sense, either.

The Falken Azenis RT-615 is maybe the stickiest street tire around. If you don't like them because they wear out fast, that's a matter of your priorities, but everyone I know who uses them, loves the grip.

The Yokohama A048 (it's not called the A048R, just the A048) is an R compound track tire. I wouldn't use it on the street, since (like most track tires) it wears fast, doesn't give any warning before losing grip, and needs to be warmed up to grip effectively. But it's a good choice for track use.

The BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW is an overpriced budget performance tire, not even a top of the line tire but rather a budget tire similar to the Yokohama ES100, for people who don't want to pay for the best tires around. You can get a lot more tire for your money by choosing other choices like the ES100 and the Kumho Ecsta SPT.

So you've mentioned a supersticky street tire, an R compound track tire, and a mediocre budget tire. Did you have a coherent point to make, or were you just trying to name a few different tires off the top of your head?

all im saying is that from my personal experience azenis did not preform well in any environment. KDW may not be the top of the line but they get the job done. its good to know that i cant voice my opinion here because if you try to disagree with any one you get put down....next time ill keep my own mouth shut
