Default D2R/S Bulbs into stock housing

i know theres been a million HID questions asked. And im pretty sure no one wants to answer any, but here it goes. Ok. It seems to be from what i've read that D2S and D2R bulbs are almost the same as the H4 bulb as far as where the filament is placed. So if the filament is in the same place the light should be reflected from the same place as the stock light bulb. Thus the beam pattern should not change. Correct??? Ive been looking at this site http://hidexpert.com/
With the adapter thing they sell for the H4 headlamps should set a D2R/S buld in the same place as an H4. Can anyone help me PLEEEZ

http://www.turntableteknicianz...D.htm I think what i'm trying to do is similar to what tis guy did and his beam pattern turned out well. Except for im using an adapter to put the bulb in, instead of cutting the bulb to make it fit.

i've heard it's do-able...

but i sure hope you don't plan on using the stock EG headlight housings to do so!

fluted lens + HID = very bad glare and poor beam pattern/cutoff line
(look at the last picture on that DIY link you posted... the cutoff line should be sharp. also see how much glare is above the "cutoff line") follow the "s14 retrofit" link on that page to see what a REAL hid cutoff should look like...

i'm not a sure if there is an h4 headlight housing that would be suitable for hid capsules... if so, it's gonna be a custom job to get it into the civic anyway... so why not just do a retrofit?

oh, and if you do decide to follow that posted link's DIY hid... do NOT just use the factory headlight harness, unless you wanna burn it up. you need to make/buy a proper wiring harness.

well im thinking about taking the clear lenses off of aftermarket headlights and puting them on my stock ones, just because i like the way the stock lights look. but maybe i wouldnt with the clear lenses. But other than that the cut-off line isnt a big deal to me, it couldnt be worse then what i have stock. Because the results in that DIY is about the same as what my lights looks stock, except for 10x brighter

The cut off line should be a big deal to you. Improper use of HIDs well blind other drivers and risk a fix it ticket from the cops and then they'd have a reason to ticket you for other things as well, not to meant a reason just to pull you over anyways. A nice clean cutoff line means the the HID is being used to its best effiency. but do what you want to thou, it's your life, you've been warned.

How is the cut-off line made and how do you adjust it?

that is what i plan on putting the D2R blub in. It says that long U shaped piece is what makes the cut-off line.

cut off line are made best if you use a projector type housing and not reflector. every light bulb and light housing and retro job are different so dont expect the same result from using same products. i have done many retro before and i say your best shot is go buy a after market clear housing made for eg civic. gutt that projector out and put a better projector in. there are many different types, each have there own pros and cons. but never use HID on a civic housing, its horrible. it will be 10x wrose than stock bulbs. it will glare everywhere.

oh yeah...d2s bulbs are made for projectors housings. where d2r are made fore reflector housings

oh and one thing i forgot... hope you have an idea of how to put high beams into the housing, cause you're gonna lose it when you swap out the H4 bulb...

hope you don't need to pass inspection out there in OR like you do here in PA... PA really sucks when it comes to rules/regulations for vehicles.

yeah, i guess this "shield" would work for reflector type, but unless your reflector is designed for HIDs the cutoff will still suck (even with a clear glass cover.

in HID projectors there is a piece of metal called the shield which produces a crisp cut-off.

go with projector retrofit with clear headlight cover. use bi-xenon projector if you choose to have both high and low beam. dont rely on reflector to give you a nice cut off line.

do it once do it right!

And how do you get high and low? Are D2S/R's capable of doing high/low?

Yes, but you'd need a special bulb with a moving shield.

Most cars with Hi/Low (bi-xenon) have projectors with a shield that moves.

you don't ned a special bulb... it's the same bulb with a moving shield inside the projector... (bi-xenon projectors) there is a solenoid to move the shield...

as for jdm headlights using d2s bulbs... only if the jdm headlight was hid (like an hid itr headlight housing) i'm pretty sure the ballast is built into the housing...

regardless, you should use a separate wiring harness (thicker gauge) to supply power directly from the battery to your ballasts...

^ his post was referring to the bulb itself and not the housings.

There are bi-xenon bulbs out there with shields attached. Not worth the time IMO. If you're going to do it, do it right and retrofit.

cuz my old headlights the D2S bulbs just twisted in as if they were meant for that JDM housing, ive always been curious on if the housing for a JDM headlight was meant for a D2S bulb
