haha i wondered the same thing when i first got a del sol. just forgot about it over time though

 

I think that spot is occupied by the power side mirrors control, at least on my 97 VTEC. But it looks different on mine. That spot has a circular control for aiming the mirror with a 3-position switch above/below it for selecting left/none/right mirror.

It looks like on that model it's a blank spot suitable for mounting a switch. There are similar spots elsewhere - one's above the ashtray, a couple are back by the lock for the rear compartments, etc. Mfgs include them even if they don't use them, because they let the dealers install "finished" options (suitable for a new car they're selling, for instance) much easier.

I think the transtop switch was normally mounted at that ashtray position, but maybe on older models (before the idea of putting power mirrors in a 2 seater afflicted the wrong person) they put it over there. Hrm. Learn something new every day...

 

opn the power windows its a whole differnt piece its round. I have no clue.

 

i have a 95 and i cant remember. i think power mirrors. looks weird like that though. not all sol's have power mirrors?

 

In del Sol's equipped with power mirrors, the control swith occupies that spot. For the rest of us, it's a clip for holding whatever. I usually use it to hold my parking garage tickets.

 

Heh, I'm making a little strap-thing so I can mount my cell phone there =P

The little clip is a leftover from when the first ones were brought over I'd imagine. I mean it can't be a coincidence that the clip will hold a map and the JDM maplights are right near there =P

well, my 93 si has a power mirror switch there, but my 93 s has that clip... I've always figured it was for holding papers and such.... guy I got the car from used it for holding money...
