Default the truth about the ZEX 59300 cam?

okay, its suggested you upgrade springs and/or retainers with this cam. BUT, alot of people say you will be okay on stock springs and all as long as you dont go past redline. will this be okay or was this cam meant to rev past redline.

and how much would i benefit from using this cam on a boosted d16? any hp guesses?

Everyone and their mom uses that cam (including me). I wouldn't use anything else.

as long as y stay 7500 or less, no need to upgrade springs and retainers

it is definately worth it, and yes you DON'T need to upgrade the valve springs/retainers with the cam although i suggest it. Furthermore if you plan on revving past 7800rpm then maybe the cam isnt for you thats when it stop making power. I have mine and love it, i do however rev to 9k but for what the cam lacks the turbo easily makes up

I'm guessing that if you upgrade the valvesprings...the cam will make power above about 7k RPM?...with the cam and stock springs you only make power to about 7k?

the springs/retainers dont add power they just allow you to rev higher thus using the full potential of the cam

Yeah...thats what I was tryin to get at. Since the cam makes power to ~7800...the springs will allow you to rev that high and get that power.

the cam makes a nice difference in the top end.

you dont need to upgrade the spring/retainers if you stay around the stock rev limit.

but springs and retainers are cheap, just get them and enjoy the extra power band

platinum.

will any tuning be necessary if you install this cam? like a/f or timing? or do you just drop it in and go?

definately a valve lash will be needed to be performed. the lobes on these are alot different that stock, so setting valve clearances is important.

if you are already boosted and tuned i would suggest a retune because i wouldnt be suprised if you gained 30+whp in the upper rpms from the cam, not to mention all the midrange gains

had the cam in my z6. I put the cam in when the car had 160XXX and now it has 220XXX stock springs and everytihng. I have the stock rev limit and I have had no issues. I never dynoed, but b4 the cam in a SI with full interior I ran 16flt after I ran 15.6 with a really bad clutch there it is.

Zex is the ****
