Which motor is reliable w/ lot of potential?
Hey all i drive a 92 eg civic si and my motor blew out...(don't hit triple digits when theres not much oil in the car) neways it was only the stock d16 motor and i decided instead of just throwin it in some junkyard ill work on it for the summer. Neways any1 have ne suggestions on which motor i should choose, i want something reliable and has potential im planning to make it into a weekend racer and keep it in the garage year round...well the motors i have in mind are. I also live in the NW indiana area and i just moved out here ne1 kno of ne good tuner shops or teams in the area???

rebuild the stock d16. they can be very potent when supplied with boost. That would also save you money, instead of doing a swap.
get a b16 sir 2. they are fair in price and are very reliable. I think its around 2300.00 for the whole swap. This will have ample amount of power and be a great daily driver. i would say this is your best option unless you are only driving the car on weekends. good luck.
Well i am going to have it as a weekend end driver only i recently bought another car so i dont need the hatch year round. Besides living in Indiana i have seen many P.O.S stangs and T-Birds that think they are all bad so i wanna show them wat lil 4 bangers can do and make sure they take their "i smoke imports" stickers off their white trash Ferrari's. I dont have much of a budget i just dont want a motor more than 5g but i do want something thats reliable and can withstand some boost

Yes, if you have at least 5-6k to do the swap
Otherwise, the only one out of the ones you listed that I have heard lots of reliablility problems about is the LS/VTEC. Supposedly much less reliable than a B18C, C1, C5, etc.

buuuuuut... he's obviously concerned about reliability, so dollar-per-horsepower is probably not the only thing he's looking at.

well. i'm not a professional but this is my advise. LS v-tec, SUX!! H22, nice but will need new motor mount and/or braces. If u can afford a type-r(which i think i saw as one of your options), that would be a bad azz car. u wouldn't need a new motor mount or anything. GSR, same thing a type-r but not top of the line components. I have a 93 civic with the stock z16, right now. I may swap but I have a friend with a y5 and he runs low 13s. the z16 he's gettin should run hi 12s. plus gas. good luck
Alright well thanx alot guys i have decided to go with the b18c1 and drop a turbo and new paintjob w/ bodywork since its a lil ricerish from previous owner...(2 tone silver n' orange doesnt look good over a ton of bondo)
Since you want reliability, then prob no turbo for U. But how bout a jackson SC? Get B18-R (or whichever B-series you can afford) and throw in a JSC and bam, 220+whp. B18 easier to go in than H22.
good choice with the b18c1! i have one in a del sol and its been turboed over 2 years with no problems at all. if you want to see what a b18c1 can do at only 5lbs of boost i have a video link of my car at my cardomain page heres the link > http://www.cardomain.com/ride/1977281
good luck with the swap!
good luck with the swap!
Next to a K-swap that's probably the best and most reliable thing you can do. If you wanna keep up with the domestics a K can definately do that but so could the b18c1 in its own respect.
