Default Dremel 400 plug-in good enough for porting out manifold???

Hey guys I was looking for a solution to port out some of the manifolds im making. I dont have access to a big air pump, so die grinder etc. are out of the question. Will the dremel 400 be strong enough like when grinding out sch.10 ports? Or will I just end up burning up the motor. Thanks for any help. Also cant seem to find any good heavy duty carbide grinding bits for the dremel? Anyone?

You can buy a nice (Makita for example) electric die grinder for under a 100 bux. The Dremel would work but it would take forever using light enough pressure not to burn up the motor.

Well the cheap electric makita grinder for around $100 only has a 2.0 amp motor which is the exact same as my dremel. The coulet though is bigger 1/4". They make an expensive electric die grinder (around $250) which the motor is a 6.0 amp motor. Can i put more continious load on the die grinder compared to a dremel? Im guessing I can. Thanks

I have ported hundreds of turbo housings & manifolds with the Makita Electric Die Grinder. It is awesome with the carbide bits. I would stay away from the Harbor Freight one. I tried it and it only lasted 3 turbo housings. Make sure to get a few different carbide burs so you are not running to the store to get bits all the time.

And a dremel does not even compare... It will take you 10 x more time with a dremel than with the Makita!

Here are the three available from Makita. I have the 2nd one. Worked awesome. Could port a DSM Exhaust Housing perfectly in less than 30 minutes where it took 6+ hours w/ a dremel.

All available here at Makita.

Good Luck. I hope I have helped you in your decision.

oh yeah, you can get the Carbide Bits at Grainger or your local welding shop should have them in singles or boxed sets.

They last a long long time.

I have had the same ones for more than 3 years and they are still going strong!
