Take a skid... aka pallet, strap motor to it -- take wood, build a box around motor. Taddddddddaaaa -- crated.
Better off just paying someone, I found a local place that crated it for only $70 -- pretty good deal because they also let the shipping company pick the motor up from there, which if I was to have it picked up from my house, it would have been $40 more for residential, and another $40 for a lift gate (didnt have any friends available at the time to help lift motor) -- so really, I saved $10 + ALOT of hassle by letting them crate it.
Look in the yellow pages -- under boxes/crates -- make some phone calls, youll find something for sure
