when I am in gear and go into neutral and rpms drop, the battery and oil light comes on and the car dies, but my headlights, radio and guages all work fine.

It starts up fine afterward but the same thing keeps happening.

Could it be the altenator? why does the water oil come on?

I'm having the same problem....I'm thinking it may be my injectors, cause at times my motor will be flooded a little and I can't start the car, and other times my car starts up fine. You may have the same problem, but other things to check for could be your

-Fuel Filter
-Spark Plugs
-Plug Wires
-Dizzy(cap and rotor)
-Injectors
-EGR valve
-IAC valve

 

i had the same thing happen to me, for some reason my catalyic converter was stopped up. . . i got a high flow and it stopped for a while. it did start doing it again but only when i came to a complete stop. before i just had to put it in N and it would cut off. .
