I have a D15B vtec, with a 4-1 SS header into a SS mandrel bent 2.225 header back exhaust with stock cat, with resonator, with a Magnaflow muffler ( not a Fart can)

I was wondering what would you do if you were me?

I have an option of doing the following:

Keep it like it is, (quite, all motor sound)
Remove Cat, keep resonator
Remove resonator
remove both cat and resonator


What would you do? Im looking for the most performance I can, Yes I would like it a lil louder than it is... ( its kinda quiet, but some peeps say it kinda sounds like a ferrari)

So I was going to remove Cat (put in test pipe) and keep resonator)
the reason for this is a buddy with an EG like myn (although its an Integ LS swap)
Had no cat, with resonator with a fart can, and was loud, not obnoctiously loud, and ot really raspy, he gotten alot of good comments of his sound. ..... (but that's an LS motor)

 

IMO jus go and get a test pipe.

well defitly remove the cat first, u will feel the power gain, its a good feeling. i wouldnt touch the resignator cause a friend took the cat and resignator off, and ran test pipes ensted, it was buzzzzyyy and very anoing. so forget about the resignator bro. lol

 

I just finished a mini-me, y8head y7block,97 DX coupe, with dc headers that bolted right up to the DX pipe. so I ran it without the cat last night, It was loud, but at anything over 4000 it made a raspy noise that was way louder and way more annoying. If I could get rid of that raspy engine noise I'd stick with no cat.

 

def just get a gutted cat, or a test pipe. keep the resonator

just get a high flow cat. dont gut your cat or get a test pipe. youll sound like such a ricer. youll definately smell the difference too.

Thats if you have an N1 or some loud *** exhaust on it, but if you have a ws2 or a thermal or something quiet the difference is not going to be that major. You'll still have the same deep tone, but it will be a lil bit louder.

 

I have a magnaflow Muffler, the REAL muffler Not a Grap fruit shooter, or a coffe can with angry bees in it.
I think I may get the test pipe, if too rasy, ill put the cat back on. mabey get a high flow.

and I wanna stay as far away from "RICE" as I can! I think I did good my getting the Magnaflow muffler.

 

I bought a skunk2 catback exhaust for my 99 si. Very next thing I bought was a test pipe. Kepp the cat around for emissions but with the test pipe hitting VTEC is freaking LOUD!!!!!!

I did gut my cat and my car came a live, sound changed to a richer sound, (only at very high rpms). BUT the smell... with the windows down on a hot day you will smell it...

 

Sounds like I need to gut the cat huh... thats a lil more power hidden i guess.

Either get a performance cat or keep the one you have. It's there for a reason, not only does it provide back pressure which some will argue is needed, but more importantly it will prevent you from destroying the air we all breathe.

Oh, that and if you are caught without a cat (cops aren't blind and they do have a sense of smell), you will most likely get a ticket.

ticket is min of 2500$ up to 25000$

All these people that say get one are to high on their butt dyno, let me explain how this works. Your car has no reason to have a test pipe... are you turbo..no are u a highly built motor no... so don't waste your time and money seriously you rice boys that run these test pipes on stock civics are ridiculous.

Also it does destroy the air we breath like mentioned above for what reason so you can have people point and you and laugh because you have a loud exhaust with a test pipe on a 98whp car....real cool guys..

Also I will say I use a test pipe on my civic BUT only on TRACK days. It gets put on at the track and taken off there that is all. And i can honestly say i have ran without it and my times were EXACTLY the same and I am a consistent driver and fairly good to for that matter.

 

gut the cat if you dont want to spend any money. if you dont mind spending a couple bucks on a test pipe buy that. it will be better for the performance and smooth things out. also you can always unbolt it and throw your cat back in if you dont like it.

i ran it with the test pipe last time i was at the track... The times came out the same.
