Default Cam seal install..............

I am not sure if this has been done on here, but I figured I'll post up some pics just in case. This will apply for pretty much any B's (LS,GSR,SI) and will be using a aluminum seal.

First you will remove the v-cover.

here is the culprit!!! damn oil leaks.

next remove the cam cap. I start in the center and work my way out. You may not have to do that but just to be safe.

Once that is off remove the 2 6mm bolts on the end caps, and pull out the seal.

ewwww

Clean off the area where the new cap will go. Get some Honda bond (if you have it) or the regular gray sealant will work to, like I am using.

Now place the new seal where the old one was.

Put the cam caps back on and toque them down.
6mm 7 foot pounds
8mm 19 foot pounds.

I again put the cam caps on starting from the center and working my way out.
Put the v-cover back on and bolt it down. Then start it to check for leaks. Your done, you should be leak free for way longer then if you had put another rubber one on.

I hope this helps someone.

Your welcome, and most B motors will have this problem.

I got my seal at KMS. I know most people don't like them but for $15.00 why not?

I have my cam seal for my SOHC waiting to go in, I've been real lazy since the car isnt on the road.

Definately easy to do. Nice write up.

I'm still learning all about the honda motors and this did help me. I was never sure how the seal went in until now. Also isnt there just one seal on DOHC since the intake cam drives the distributor? Good job.

^^ YES^^

I did that after the fact. $20.00 from Honda and your good. From what the Honda guy told me the v-tec gasket is known for going bad and leaking.

Ha! This SINGLE post kept me from having to create another thread.

I pulled my dizzy today and oil started pouring out of my head so I was going to go get a cam seal, but I wanted to look it up online first. Then I saw "dizzy seals" here: http://www.certifiedcarparts.c....html so I was like "WTF do I need?"

Yes, this was a very random post, but this thread needed a bump anyway.

BTW- Is this in the FAQ yet?

No the vtec solenoid is bolted on and has a gasket that should also be replaced, I found out later.
